View Full Version : Valour cap
Hey Guys, just wondering if anyone knew if there was a valour cap. I was building up my general with some good military vices and he is now at 9 stars and 8 valour. I've been slaughtering anything i'm able to for quite awhile now but i get the feeling his valour isn't going up any furthur. Anyone know?
thanks in advance

Theoretically there is no limit, but its harder for high valor uits to gain some more. Killing better units gives valor quicker, if you're slaughtering crap units, it really takes a lot of them to give you some valor, and i mean A LOT. I've seen ppl here talking about 11v units, or maybe more i dont remember, there was a thread in the Main Hall i think.
Regards,
EC
I've seen a screenshot of 21 valor units, so there is no limit http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
But isn't there a limit in multiplayer? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif
For Multiplayer the max valor your men can start with is 4, but even then if they kill enough they can gain more points.

if you keep re-training your unit valor drops, the highest you can get is by having one singel man in your unit..in my current campaign i have a heir with valor 19.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

When I inherited the Hungarian PBM campaign, there was a general who had 15 valour. He was alone in his unit though, which makes it easier to increase his valour because every kill counted to his personal total.
Does valour increase work in a similar way to rank increase for generals, ie 1 kill => v0-v1 then 2 kills after that = v1-v2 and so on? Or is it more tied to the relative attack/defence values for your unit and those that you're killing?
So say you had a general by himself and he was like 15 valour from an originally 40 men unit of a heavy cav. If you were to retrain him to regain the lost men, how much of the valour would go down due to this?

I would think that the valour displayed in battle is the average, so unless they are trained where they get a bouse, the valour lvl would be 15/40, which probably rounds down to zero. But the game tracks individual valour so your leader will still be uber.
You can calculate it, one general with 15 valour + 39 rookies you say.
That's 1 x 15 + 39 x 0 = 15 out of 600 valour points. ( 600 = 40 x 15 )
This will give an average of 0.025 valour, resulting in 0 valour.
P.S Please correct me if I'm wrong with my calculations.
P.S second : I'm not sure if these calculations are the way to do it anymore, anyone knows the right way ?

you came up with the correct result, but the calculation is incorrect.
valour for a unit is average valour, so the units valour is (15 + 0*39)/40 = 15/40 = .375
there is a cap 20 on maximum attack point (your attack - enemies' defense). So at some time your valor increase don't have much

well, that's alerady efficient... 1.2^20 is 38,3, so the kill chance is 1.9*(1.2^20) = 72,8/100..... enough in my book.
And increased valour still increases defence, thus survivability.
Thanks for clearifying that http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Multiplayer cap is 4, and valour gain on the battlefield has been disabled.
SP campaign, I guess no limit, perhaps two digit limit at 99, but I suppose nobody will ever find out without modding.
Does killing the enemy general increase valor? If so how much?
My hired mangonel took out the Turk 5 star general (dead drunk, -20 health) and got 1 valor that same hit. I don't know how many they had killed at that point, but it couldn't have been more than 3 shots into the battle.

YOu gain more valour for killing better trops, and also for killing valourus troops, than you would get for massacering peasents. Mangonels have it easy though, one bop on the head and whatever it hits dies, but as far as I know it's quite alot harder for siege weapons to increase in valour, as it's divided amongst the entire crew, so a demi culverin would have to kill 12* as much to gain a point than an individual man.
actually, it's by unit size so siege gain valour super fast.
From better units, you gain more. My spear that killed a king went up 6 valour from kill just the king Similarly, some of my cav have mowed through mounds of peasants ad gained very little valour so troop quality definitely matters.
it's possible to have very high valour full units.
I've had a full unit of V14 silver armored halbs after repeated merging veterans of Horde battles. I must have used up tons of halbs to create that one full halb unit but it's fricking invincible in melee
after I finished with the horde, I overran half of europe with this V14 halb and a few V7-8 pavise arbs I had. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Valour over 9 is only to my knowledge displayed in personal battle and never on the strategic screen...
My top is a valour 22 almhodal prince who had around 10-12 left in his unit...secred pride and a few others + 9 star general...

A question is this the same with command...can it go over 9...

Nope. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Or else my valor 9 peasants would kick ass. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
They would be 7 attack 5 defence without upgrades...
