After getting a new pc, I decided to try MTW MP the other night. WOW Did anyone else find the extream difference between singple player and multiplayer? I have fought 8-10 battles so far, and was routed in every one. The last one my ally won, the one who was last, so i must be getting somehwat better. Just goes to show you, just becuze you can kick a pc's butt doesnt mean a thing in the real world I find MP more realissitc, not just that the other player can think, but how the battles unfold, they do close to as they would have in history, its amazing The tension before the battle, waiting for the others to finish deployment is awful, it gives me more respect for those whose lives were at stake. I love multiplayer

Whooohooo, hell yeah...

I still get an adrenaline rush when I'm involved in a good/close/tough game. You gotta love 4v4.

I love MP. I haven't even played SP in VI.

chris everyone has gone through it. There is a definite learning curve. If you have any questions you can always ask, and someone will usually help. And of course, don't let one person, or group of people intimidate or annoy you into not playing online. You can always #ignore someone (type "#ignore playername" without the quotes to do so) so they won't bother you anymore. Welcome to MP, enjoy yourself. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Hehe Reminds me of myself a bit...sometimes right before a battle I physically can feel the adrenaline rush Read the old strategy tips in the multiplayer forum, read the beginners guide, save and watch your replays counting the valor flags and types of units the veterans use. You will be routing the enemy before you shortly Charrrrgggee

Oh yes, multiplayer is absolutely tops, no doubt about it

And as Bachus (God of Wine) said above, eight player games (4v4) are the best.

And then there's organized team 4v4s (Clan vs. Clan),

for the Ultimate Total War Experience

You have a lot to look forward to http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif

Welcome Chris...
Yes it's very different isn't it? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
I've never understood why the MP community of the Total War series is so small, about 200 tops. We definitely need more people like you, I hope you continue to enjoy the experience. My advice to you would be to get into as many big games as you can, you will be able to learn from your team mates. Ask for advice, try to do the things they say and don't be intimidated if some get impatient http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I had a lot of help this way when I first played MP, there are still players who will give you sound advice

Remember the basics :

-Never buy more than 4 of 1 unit, it costs 20% more for every unit you buy after the 4th
-Make your general a tough knight unit so he'll wont rout as fast, can kee himself out of trouble and can hold his own against most units
-Valour is the most important upgrade (exception :ranged units). Units with low base morale (bad morale) need at least valour 3 to stand a chance in melee (-this is in a ": standard" 9-15k), units with normal morale need AT LEAST valour 2 to stand a chance in melee
Units with Good morale need just 1 (or none if you got knights)
-Dont tell people to STFU if they give you advice (had that too much recently http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif ).
-Enjoy

Welcome chris, you are correct,.... multi is a much different world (and a lot harder); but you will get greater satisfaction when you beat a human opponent... gl..

Hi Chris http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Let us know your online name, so we can keep an eye out for you.

Never be afraid of asking your game allies for advice on army selection or tactics either - they will want you to have a good strong army too

And ignore those who many laugh or are rude to you at first, because revenge will be very sweet, I promise http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

I too was amazed when I stepped into Multiplayer for the first time a week or so ago.

After getting bored kicking AI butt I suddenly found it very refreashing to fight against humans, and I got my butt whipped as well

Still after getting some helpful advice from my opponents and others in the TW Community (good to know there's no culture of gloating or Newbie trashing online), I have since managed to win a couple of games... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hi and Welcome to the org chris and The_Emperor

Yes, you will find the mp side of the game far more interesting, nothing like a human adversary. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif

There are a lot of friendly people there who will help you if you need advice. Just ask.

Errrm, well.

Last year I had not quite as much free time on my hands to participate in multiplayer... I also thought I would lag too much if I tried on a 56k, so I never got around to it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

Anyway... After exhausting the campaigns this year I finally got bored one night and launched multiplayer.

I guess I just wanted to make a fashionable late entrance http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hi Chris, welcome to the community :D Most of them are nice enuff :). Feel free to ask veteran players how to set up and buy your army. Most of them will react nice, and help you along. If they are not nice or ignore you they arent worth your time http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-anxious.gif

Looking forward to meet you :D

Vanya sez... welcome Just remember these useful tips:

1) Sharp end goes in enemy gut.
2) A head is a terrible thing to not make soup from.
3) Fermented blood should not be consumed prior to battle, as it will make your general foolhardy.
4) Don't waste money getting a kinigit general when all youz need is a peasant to sit back gossiping with his servants while he polishes his nails as the melee rages on.
5) If you are confused at any point during the battle, just select all and double click on an enemy general. Then you can use BOTH hands to grope your womenz and guzzle your booze as youz watch the gratifying carnage unfold

Welcome MP is indeed much harder than SP, but that's what makes voctory so much sweeter. Give yourself time to get good, and soon you'll be rampaging across the field of battle.
And the wisdom of Vanya's tips cannot be overstated.

I look foward to meeting you online
