EXTRA EXTRA read all about it:
100 peasants demolish 4 star kataphraktoi King
I have no idea what happened here. I am playing the Turks for the first time. I quickly smashed the Byzantines back to their islands and then I went for constantinople which was held by some rebels (just started a high era game). I sent an emmisarry to offer a cease fire b/c I had no ships to take their islands anyway, but before he made it there the 4 star King and his fellow 40 Kataphraktoi attack Nicea with only my 100 peasant garrison to defend. I hit auto resolve so that it would take a little longer for them to starve out, but much to my surprise...THEY WON I lost 30 peasants and killed 50 men WTF????? How is that possible? I know the king had the good runner vice but that shouldn't be nearly enough.

hey porkchop, try to be a little more helpful in the subject line of your thread so people know what they'll be reading about before they open your thread.
thanks for your cooperation. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

well the fast runner or w/e helped.
plus they had more units. i know they are simply peasents but thats the chance u take with auto-resolve. Chalk it up to experience. Plus who knows that general could have been 5 stars with excellent attacker attribute.

Thats very strange, was propably the vice with auto resolve that did it cause ive never been able to kill a kata with say 500 peasants hehe

So 41 Katas attacked and 50 of them get killed? This
seems like a bug or that kind of thing to me.
It certainly does Keimo, and nobody was captured... normally in a autocalc some of the losing side gets captured.
Aaaahh... they are janissaries with peasant dresses.. Sneaky little things they are..

Oops I meant to say I killed 30 and lost 50. 31:53 to be exact. The peasant general was just made a turn or two before so he had no V+V's.
And the enemy King of course made it back to Rhodes even though there was no port.
"Porkchop", what's that supposed to mean? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif

I think that's a common term for people who give their thread the topic of "HUH??????" instead of something more useful and/or descriptive like "100 peasants defeat 41 kats???". http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

Well when I made that post a whole 30 seconds after it happend I was still dumbfounded. WTF was the main thing going through my head. I'm still confused, suprised, saddened and delighted by that. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif
If your peasant unit was holed up in a castle, then I could see it happening easily. The castle itself has built-in archers.
Can you load the saved game before the battle, and autoresolve again, and see if it happens again?
The Good Runner vice would definitely have a big effect on a battle. I defeated the Pope's army, and he ran away during the first half of the battle, and earned the Good Runner vice. Thereafter, I just kept attacking whatever province he happened to be in, and autoresolved every battle and won every time.

It wasn't a castle assault. They fought in the open field.
Sadly I don't have the save anymore. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

This is easily explainable. Autoresolve takes little (if nothing) into account besides the number of men involved. In this way it is possible to win a river battle from the attacking side with few casualties if you outnumber them and aut-resolve. This is very cheesy, and I've never done it, but it's what I've heard.

- But if autoresolve only factors in the number of men, then why do we see jedi stories of lone heir units, sent off to die, only to decimate hordes of enemies and emerging victorious? Random number generator can produce odd results sometimes.

I said little (if nothing), meaning there are some other things. It probably takes into account valor as well. Something along the lines, anyway.
Ot maybe it knows what you are trying to do and makes it fail just to piss you off http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif
