I am playing the Danes(first time and they are fun), I have been playing the nice guy all game. All diplomacy all the time, all trading, only taking rebellious provinces. I have a mighty army, but it is mostly defensive or expansionist on the rebellious. I am growing without pissing people off. (testing some theories)

Once such province is Normandy in the heart of France. They rebelled and France was leaving the province alone. I took the provice to be very passive agressive and have been able to maintain it without any problems at all. My people as a whole are the happiest in the world.

The French have pretty much swallowed up the English(my very trusted friend and husband to many of my daughters), and everyone pretty much hates the French. The French keep sending Crusades through my territories (pissing me off) so finally I put my foot down. I figure the guy is at war with everyone in the world cept me, I might as well join in on the fun and put these stinkin French in their place.

So I say no to the crusade, I slaughter the army, take 32 casualties to his 800, I get excommunicated (not a problem) and now I am at war with the French. Needless to say, I am going on the offensive now, and I am going to put these stinkin French in their place with a swarm of angry Vikings.

The French decide to invade Normandy...
My troops are at the disadvantage. He has 2 to 1 on me, but I am confident in my defensive setup, and I have 2 aces up my sleeve in some hidden shock troops in the trees to flank the heavy cavalry and hit the enemy army from behind.

Now onto the behavior.
The CPU approaches my army, and then just sits there. No attack, just a lot of taunting and yelling and bouncing?? Every few The timer ends, and I successfully defend. I mean, the army just sat there and let out a Howard Dean HEYA every few turns, and did not attack What is the deal

The 'Deal' is the Computer will not attack you because your in a strong strategic position.

The AI is obsessed with trying to tire you out by getting you to chase them. Also it tries to outflank and avoids risky head-on clashes.

Bring the fight to them and teach them the meaning of pain http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I don't know The_Emperor. I had a game in which the French army routed my main army and then just watched about 4 units of reinforcements march on to the field. I took one unit up to them and attacked. The attacked unit fought back until I retreated. Then it stopped and went back into watching my unit standing yards away from them. I won the battle simply because the timer ran out.

Maybe it has something to do with the French. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

does any1 elsewish the AI actualy knew Chivarly?

there wasnt any hill camping or mountain archery.

it was a flat field and the two armies line up and faught on relatively even terrain.

like in MP battles.

i dont want that all the time but just 6 in 10 games would be nice.
