Why mod won't start?

I will really, really appriciate any help you experienced mod makers can give me.
I was changing Barocca's Shogun mod for practice and because i like Shogun more than Medieval.
I made 5 new clans, made pictures, putting old pictures for units from STW, put new entries in .txt files.
Problem is that my Mod won't show in Main Menu. I think main problem is in file smap_5.txt in STARTPOS folder.
I put new name of clans, start positions, heir, heroes, but nothing...

I want to know about what startpos file depends, I mean what is necessary for MOD to show itself in Main menu?
Where can be error? Is it possible that error can be somewhere else? Maybe in LOC folder?

Unfortunatley your erorr could be anyhwere you made changes to the files, it is a tediuos but good practice to make only a few edits (keeping track of them) at a time and then starting the game to be sure your Mod shows on the period select screen and also run it a few turns to check for CTD's. it may be a pain to do, but it beats trying to backtrack and debug after making numerous edits, sorry no easy answer here...LOS

if the mod doesn't show as selectable onthe campaign selection screen, then its usually the start pos file thats got the error, any other file normally effects all eras and so would crash when game loads, or camp or battle maps load.

this narrows it down to one file, but it could in all honesty be anywhere in that file.

to narrow it down further, modding heroes and getting it wrong usually means the hero doesn't show up, so its probably not that.

my advice is check you set up everythng for your new clans properly in the startpos file. have you defined the pics properly? have you made a spelling error? added/missed a space. literally you have to read through the ENTIRE file for errors.

not familiar with this mod of barocca's, so i can't tell what should be there and what shouldn't in the first place...
