View Full Version : Multiplayer In game communication.
Hi Sancho here i play Medieval total war (including vi) online in multiplayer and i am aware that many clans online are using programs which allow verbal communication in multiplayer games and this is a huge advantage to these players, (my typing skills are very limited :P) As a non clan member i think this puts me at a disadvantage with my allies against such players. As with X box, which uses verbal communication on all games, i was wondering why this isn't available through gamespy to all players who play MTW online as this would make ingame communication with allies so much easier thus makeing it a fairer competition.
I often find my self in a possision where i wish to communicate quickly to one of my allies and find my self in a state of frustration because i am unable to do so.
OK i know i should try to improve my typing skills but verbal communication for all would be the ideal solution, and i fail to believe i am the only person who finds this a problem.
Just a thought, What do you guys think?
First, welcome to The Org Sancho http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
There are three (at least that I know of) in game comm programs available - BattleComm, TeamSpeak, and RogerWilco.
These are available to all players. The only reason that clans are able to use this option is that they get together and agree to do so. So find a few friends, folks that you like to play with, and ask them if they have one of the comm programs. Suggest to them that they install one and get hooked up.
Or join a clan.
Be aware that on some comps and ISPs the extra load that the comm program places on the system can impact game play. On hot comps with big bandwith ISPs this is not a problem.

Hi Sancho and welcome to THE ORG http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
yes, verbal comm is a bless There are so many out there, the most popular [priority]: Team Speak, Roger Wilco, Ventrillo, BattleComm, and a microsoft Side Winder Game voice.
Well, a good headset is a must, imo.
In total war you got some time to type eg. cav. charge left, or attack right flank etc. But much easier to coordinate better with verbal. In other games, FPS esp. verbal is a must. But you can survive well against verbal enemies in tw tho.
But download it, familarize yourself, set up a server and invite ppl in.

Hmmmmm yes a good thing would be if g spy were to create a in game talk server if they do or dont for rome i dont know but yes i suppose this would make the game a bit more interesting and i suppose better game play from all :P

Not if you have a 56k modem wich would die trying to keep up with RTW and voice comms.
besides voice coms are only good for teams who can use teamspeak or ventrillo anyway.
voice coms on a public game = grief
omfg you smacktard turn around, no dont go that way
was so gay, thats way wrong, wtf i shot him first
f*ck this, wtf, no way, oh for f*cks sake, why does he keep killing me
etc.
*i have 2.5mb cable and voice coms but hardly use it due to said cons.
If communication with only one player is enough for you I advice you SKYPE. Quality is like phone call.

I'd argue that team chat gives any kind of advantage at all.
For sure it is fun... But beside the fun factor, there is not much really.
What is unvaluable when you play often with the same people is knowing how they react, and have the same understanding of the strenght and opportunities you see on a battlefield.
When I play with some FF members, sometimes, I smile when I see our troops moving together because we saw the same thing on the battlefield, and want to exploit it in the same way. We do not talk for that. We do not even write it. Still the same thought cross our mind.
Can teamchat help? Maybe. But I can imagine plenty of circumstances (like KY example) where it would be more detrimental, or more of a distraction than anything else.
