For the past week, I've been trying to resolve a rather convoluted problem my friend has encountered, when attempting to play STW/WLE and other games online.

He has been able to join the game/chat foyer on EA Play and is able to chat with the other players in the foyer, but has been unable to see hosted battles when they are posted. Despite the fact that other players can see and join the battles that have been posted. He has also been having the same problem with another game, on Gamespy Arcade (which he and I were able to play without difficulty, up until last Wednesday...when this problem popped up out of thin air). The oddest thing is that he did'nt own STW/WLE until last Thursday. Upon installing STW/WLE and downloading the requisite patch, he got into the EA Play foyer and encountered the same problem we had on Gamespy the night before He can see the players, he can chat with them, but he cannot see hosted battles

He owns a Gateway 900mhz system, with 128mb of RDRAM, 32mb SDRAM, running Windows 98. He is currently using AOL Broadband for Cable for his internet provider. He has McCafee Virus protection and claims to have deactivated his firewall and is not using a router. He recieves no error messages and simply cannot host, nor see hosted games. The same symptoms appeared the night before he bought STW/WLE, with an Activision game on Gamespy. He goes in there and can see the players and chat with them, but cannot see the games that have been hosted.

After months of convincing my friend to purchase STW/WLE, he finally buys it and we cannot play because of this inexplicable problem I beg of you guys and gals, if any of you have a solution to resolve this problem, please share it I consider myself to be fairly computer tech savvy and this one has me utterly stumped. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-computer.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-help.gif

Hmmmmm...anyone??? I've been working with my friend to resolve this problem since last Thursday. I have it on good word, from my regular STW/WLE gaming mates, that if ya got a problem, here is the place with the answers. Anyone seen this before?? Better still does anyone have a solution??? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Hello Methos. Sorry to hear about the frustrations with your friend. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif (just kidding about the http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ) Ahem. Anyyyyyyyway...

The problem your friend is having sounds familiar but I can't locate it in a search. Since he is having the same problem with another game, then that begs the question, what changed on your friend's computer between the time the other game worked and it didn't work (besides STW/WE)? To my knowledge a firewall is a problem for hosting and these days, if anyone is having a problme with STW online it is either with login or hosting.

I'm moving this to the Apothecary. Maybe one of the tech guys remembers.
