http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Hi everyone.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-computer.gif Today I cannot access ezBoard sites that have--up until now--not been a problem (Home of the Masterless, Aggony, Shinkage, etc.). I get the standard Windows Explorer Page Cannot Be Displayed error page. I know the addresses are correct.

I seem to remember seeing something over the last couple of days about a critical update for Windows Explorer 6.1, so I downloaded and installed that, thinking it would resolve this problem. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif It hasn't. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif I can't even access the ezBoard company Home Page to ask about it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-no.gif

Anyway, is there anyone else out there who is having/has had this problem? Any ideas on what to do about it? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I was able to connect to the Shogun MI server once earlier today, but now when I try, it just hangs after entering my name and password ... it says Connecting ..., which comes up prior to Logging On ... and Logged On. I have to Control+Alt+Delete and close Shogun from the control box (it says shoggie has stopped responding). I never make it to the foyer. I don't know if this is related to the problem of accessing ezboard sites, but it started at the same time. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Don't laugh (oh ok, go ahead): I run Windows 98 (std, not SE) on an ancient Micron PII 450 Mhz MMX box, and I am currently sentenced to a dial-up connection. I have not had any problems like this before.

I run AVG virus software, Sygate Personal Firewall, and Popupstopper, but admittedly, I've had them shut off for long periods while online over the last few days so I could host games on Shoggie. It is entirely possible that I've caught something.

Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. As you can see I'm an emotional mess as a result of this ... thanks all. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-help.gif

I have no problem with Ezboard (bears clan forum).

As for STW, I dont know, I think the server was unplugged quite a few time, check out the Sword Dojo though :)

Thanks for your time and attention, Mithrandir.

I think all you have to do to solve these kinds of problems is type a long and involved post here at the Org ... .

Both problems have mysteriously disappeared, just as they appeared. I don't know how or why, and frankly, I don't care. I'm going to go play now ... you can close or delete this thread as you wish. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

I know the totalwar.com forums, hosted on ezboard, have been rather flaky for some people for the past few weeks. Haven't heard what the cause is. Just now it took me 4 tries to connect to the totalwar.com forums (page cannot be displayed errors). And i'd been on those boards for about 20 mins without a single problem earlier.

edit: and i edited my hosts file with their IP so it's not some flaky DNS problem, and no other sites give me any trouble so it's not my ISP connection.

Hello TogakureOjonin,

I recall that EZBoard is busy upgrading servers and/or software (database which includes userdetails). A serveradmin can plan things carefully and even take measures to minimise problems for their users. But EZ at least has to pull the plug from one system and start the other, you'll experience a disrupture. And then, it's software with all its unexpected side effects. Things may go less smooth (intended by EZ or unexpected) and you can experience problems: it's working but not as smooth as should be.

Then there is also your local computer (and computers can do odd things at times) and the long thin wire (+ relaystations) connecting your computer with the EZ server.

motorhead, not your ISP no. But you are travelling from A to B to EZ, while person 2 is travelling from D to E to EZ.
The problem may be at B, you can't move on (or very slowly) to EZ then, while person 2 can as he travels by E. I couldn't connect to certain local servers in the past, while a ICQ chatbuddy could at the very moment.

Thanks Tosa. Everything seems back to normal now. I look forward to the time when you can join us again for some Shoggie games http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif . I've always enjoyed playing with you, Yuuki, Orda, and the honorable Mizus in general. I hope all is well with you and InuBoy (NekkoKeenEye says 'mrrrow').
