View Full Version : Kings and heirs
Hello everyone
What should i do with kings and heirs?
I use them in early game as generals for my armies. But after a few generations they are so degenerated that i let them rot in my capitol province. I usually have more usable generals by then anyways.
If it can be done, non-crown princes make excellent governors and generals. If you focus on building your second or third princes they can sometimes start at 4+ stars and make great generals. Plus they often start with virtues like Great warrior or Natural Leader. Plus it's also good to use your King in sure or easyish battles where you can level him up for a better second generation.
well, if your King has high enough influence, then you can get some great offspring as well... hell, my army in VI as Vikings consisted of my King and his 9 sons (that's hogh valour huscarls troops...) so they definitely have they uses... plus The 678 mentioned the fact that they tend to get at least one virtue when they come off age... natural leader, killer instinct, great warrior and such... i've had sons of command as high as 6... and they're only 16 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Do nothing IMO you cant take the risk they might get cut off or worse. Only use the as generals if you are hard pressed for good generals ie THE Dane's in early or the Viking's in VI
As soon as you get that second heir start using one to fight battles. Once he gets a few virtues and/or stars, rest him and fight with another. As stated, don't let your King get cut off or trapped as this can have serious consequences on loyalty and happiness throughout your empire.
Don't be afraid to eliminate undesirable royalty by sending them into unwinnable battles, or assassinate them.
Honor your alliances, this reduces Influence, as does losing crusades (I think losing provinces also hurts).
Marry outside the family as much as possible. I have seen lots of posts on this topic, but it always seems to me that my line does better when I marry foreign princesses into my family.

It's also not a bad idea to keep one eye on their loyalty, including royal uncles when the King dies. If a particular general lacks loyalty, throwing him into the King's stack will raise his loyalty after a few years.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. as the saying goes.
There is only one task suited for royal knight:
Charge
