HRE´s getting hammered.... again!

Well, it´s happened again, HRE is no more I´m really getting annoyed with this. She is always fighting wars, that she usually starts, on multiple fronts and getting x-commed as the agressor.
Earlier suggestions on other threads to solve this prob has been to increase her strenght, add more infrastructure etc etc. IMHO the prob lies with the "catholic expansionist crusader" part and should be changed to "c.. defender c..". Has anyone tried this or any other solution that makes HRE live longer?

The HRE has a very extended border line, and that is the problem I think. But making them stronger does not make sense to me, because the HRE wasnt really that unified all the time. There were long periods of dissolution, where the Emperor would control only few provinces, while the rest was either autonomous or tributary for other monarchies.

Should this thread be really in the Alchemist Lab, I wonder...

More fortifications, all over the place: every HRE province should get at least a motte and baily for free. The HRE was ridiculously fortified, that being the reason they were able to stop the magyars from being invited along as mercenaries to spoil and plunder region X every spring or so... should also significantly slow down the "reverse blitzkrieg" phenomenon.

I have changed "CATHOLIC_EXPANSIONIST_CRUSADER" into "CATHOLIC_DEFENSIVE_CRUSADER" for both HRE and France. It really changed the game. They spend more resources on teching up, and expand more wisely.

Making the HRE capital region(Bavaria?) have a higher tech level also helps.

Yup, I tried changing this and now HRE is solid. I also changed France to "defensive" and everything is looking good so far 120-130 years of gameplay. Capitol province is Svabia Norse. It´s funny how we think alike most of the time my friend.

Or give border fort to every HRE provinces to solve the HRE low loyal problem. And their King has a vice to lower loyal, I remembered.

BTW, does anyone know how to change AI behavior toward certain factions?
ie.
everyone seem to be hardcoded to hate the HRE, italians and the byz attack everyone with a decent amount of naval power, etc.

The "Germans" were always hammered from every side... Even recently in worldwar1 and 2. Its amazing the Germans still are a free people or not wiped off the map completely. I think there being hammered from both sides is exactly what keeps them in check and doesnt allow them to conquer europe.

Since I changed the stat "catholic_expansionist_crusader" to "catholic_defensive_crusader" for both HRE and France I´ve experienced several suprisingly stabile games.
But the other night HRE completely whiped out the French, Italians and Poland so you gan really imagine seeing the german hordes appearing in front of my Spanish border, he he
