Is it me or is the money just getting lower and what is really the point?
As many of you probably know im a 24/7 vi online gamer :P and so i can play with 10k or anything just fine yet the money just seems to be getting lower what is really the point people say it shows more skill but how? i mean having less money doesnt show any more or less skill as if your opponent has the identical situation including money then its still an even game and the most skilled battler will always come out on top so does the money really matter?
I play still gr8 with the old 10k but what was wrong with the old 15k if anything it was more enjoyable and the battlers tend to last longer equaling more fun.

Im fine with stamded being 10k but it just seems to be getting lower and lower i mean when will it stop? Just wondering what you guys think of the online money standed situation. (bit bored :P) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/handball.gif

Hi Clip.

I think you almost answered you own question in a backward kind of way. The higher florin games allow you to buy better/pumped-up units. As you said the battles last longer because the better units are more forgiving of mistakes you might make on the battlefield. They will hold out longer before routing, thus giving you more time to take corrective actions.

I think when I first ventured online with MTW, barocca and I played some 10k games - not knowing that 15K+ was the in florin amount at the time. For someone lacking skills, like me, our battles were short-lived affairs, often pretty much resolved within about 30 seconds of the hand-to-hand combat beginning. The usual result was my units heading for the hills... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-embarassed.gif I found the 15K games much better attuned to my lack of generalship - my army held out for a few minutes before packing it in. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-clown.gif

Ye but you must admit it doesnt really matter on how good you are well what i meen is the lower the florins you play doesnt make you a better player, yet some people tend to think it does i meen i can play with any amount it would just be nice to see a bit more of a variety :P

In general, I think it does make you a better player. Just as playing online improves your skills for SP, low florin improves your skills for online play. You might stink at low florin at first, just like you may have stunk at MP when you first took that step from SP, but continued practice does help.

Having said that, I do agree that variety is nice. Funny though, about a year or so ago there was much complaining about too many super higher florin games. It was also the opinion back then that 10k games were terrible because of the fragile armies. How times change. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif

10K rewards good tactics, like flanking, faster than higher florins allow.

There are 2 reasons, as I understand it, for the low florins.

First I think some folks felt like the 15K game allowed weaker players to beef up their units and withstand good tactics simply due to the higher morale.

Second, some folks wanted to try to balance gameplay between the different types of units - in particular spears are way weak.

I think that 10K helped problem number 1, but did little for game balance.

At lower florins things like desert, snow, hills really come into play and IMHO increase the defenders advantage. Lahll has made some really well reasoned observations on this, and although there is some disagreement I have found that 10K makes attacking uphill in the snow much harder than it is at 15K.

Bottom line, as Gregoshi stated, is that 10K will improve your tactical skills.

For me, I like the full range of florins. From 5K to 50K its all good. Not florin amount is better, each amount presents a different challenge. To be honest, some of my deepest insights have come as a result of seeing the various units fight at different florins.
