View Full Version : Agents and Building Effects Faction Allegiance
I have a question about the effect of agents and buildings and their allegiances and their effect.
For example, your own border forts don't catch your assasins or spies. However, it seems that a third nation's border forts will catch your assains etc. even though you are not targeting their agents. (ie. I'm Almos and sent assasin after one of the bishops who try to convert. and they run to novgorod where my assasin gets caught at the border fort)
My question is will alliances etc. change the behavior? ie. if i'm allied with novgorod, will my assasins not be caught if I don't target their agents?
Also, bishops have a dampening effect on inquisitors and prevent them from being successful to some extent. Do my own bishops inhibit my inquisitors?
I use my bishops to scout and create a spying network often to spot for my inquisitors. Do I have to move my bishops outta the way before I fry the guy?
Thanks a lot.

Yes, I;m pretty sure your own bishops dampen your inquisitors. Still keep an eye on the chances of frying people though, I'm not sure whther it is a hidden effect.
The main thig that effects inquisitors is zeal though, so you want the zeal-inspiring people to stay there right untill youy start inquisiting.

hmm, good one, passing agents through allied lands, methinks i have lost some this way, but i'm not certain...must be a risk
It definitely happens. The way I see it, a furtive man lurking dark corners with a dagger is asking for trouble, nobody asks who they are here to assasinate, nor would they believe any answer they got. Off with his head.
Therefore, don't get too paranoid when you see a bunch of warnings that you have caught assasins - they may not have been after your people, they may have been after someone else and were just passing through your lands.

Watch out for situations like this:
You own a Province with Border fort and Tavern.
In the Province there are several assassins and spies.
The Province is taken by the Enemy.
The Border Fort, now the Enemy's, will catch all (read: all) agents in the next turn. No matter how many and how many stars they've got.

Is this a bug? I lost several agents in this way who before could pass border forts due to their high rankings.

Thats a bad situation to be in, and one of the main reasons why I never train Assassins or Spies in Frontier provinces.
Personally I'd rather train them on an island somewhere or in some other backwater province. Or even not build a Border fort in that province (My own spies and assassins can handle security instead)

You're right. It was plain stupid of me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif
But I didn't expect the Hungarians to attack the
mighty Italian Empire i had at the time.
My counterattack was the second to last year of their existance but the loss of the agents was a sad experience.

Ahh don't worry I have made the same mistake.
I once had a mighty stack of around 20 Assassins sitting quite nicely in a province, the next turn a Naval Invasion happnend and captured the place...
Oh how painful it was to scroll through so many parchments and hearing those blasted torture sounds

I'd be careful about leaving lots of agents with no troops in a province. I generally follow the advice earlier given; place my agent building sites in areas a ways back from the frontier or in heavily protected areas that I dare the other side to attack
