I have this great game as the Byz. I dominate the middle east and anatolla. However, My emperor is 50 years old and has no male children http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif I married him to his sister, but I fear it's too late. To make matters worse, he's a six star general with max influence. And all good generals have near max loyalty. Any tips on provoking a revolt or making him live longer? Send spies after him until he gets negative loayaty vices? Any help would be appreciated.

While there are many people more qualified to answer than myself, if you want a revolt, I think the fastest way to do it would be to send your king to an island and get him cut off from the kingdom. Spies will reduce your chances of a civil war (that's what you're aiming for, right?) since they enhance loyalty to the king. I think that with max influence (good job, BTW) you're more likely to provoke a rebellion than a civil war, though.

You might try using emmisaries to strip a few generals of their titles- this is a sure fire way to reduce loyalty. You better hop to it, though, since a 50 year old king likely only has 12-18 years left in him.

Of course, if you're really desperate, you could cheat, so keep the save game file where your king is 50 handy in case you get scooped for heirs and don't like playing the game as it's written. I don't advise this, better to start over than have your eventual victory tainted by cheating. There is a cheat that will give you an heir, but I can't remember what it is because it's been so long since we had to deal with the 56 death bug. Oh- .unfreeze. IIRC.

I hope I don't get flayed for posting the cheat.

I wouldn't feel bad about using .unfreeze. It is bull how your King could just not have any children like that. It wouldn't be so bad, if you could marry your daughters to your favorite general and have him become king. I don't see why you can't do that. You should take a loyalty/influence hit but it should still be possible. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/handball.gif

I believe you can marry your princesses to a general to keep going.

I had no heirs and no time (I believe I was Byz as well) and married off two princesses to two generals. When the king died I had a civil war but the game didn't end. I wonder if I had married off only one princess would the succession have gone smoother. Anyway, try it. It may have been a fluke but it's worth a shot.

But doesn't marrying princesses to generals increase their loyalty, which in turn slightly decreases the chance of a civil war?

I know I've seen at least one case of marrying a princess decreasing loyalty (4 down to three) but that was a rarity (she was an ugly cow, I swaer, I tried to marry her to five different nations and no-one wanted her, married her to a general as a last resort and he hated me for it)

GAH

To instigate a revolt in enemy lands, do any of the following:

1) Slaughter their king. Does not always work on first try. You may have to kill several. But at some point, the bastards death will spawn a revolt when their next heir takes over.

2) Destroy a crusade or jihad. Destroy more than 1, and the chances go WAAAY up.

3) Isolate a provice; deny it sea access. It will eventually rebel unless the garrison is HUGE.

To PROTECT yourself,

1) Marry good generals to your unruly daughters.

2) Successfully complete a crusade or jihad.

3) Decommission units that have hopeless loyalty. Generally, a 2 loyalty or less needs to get axed. 3 or more is salvageable, though 3 is on the edge. Axe anybody with low loyalty and with dread points exceeding loyalty points.

4) Conquer territory. Conquest inhances your standing.

5) Build shit. Youz get nice virtues that increase loyalty.

Then he should either get a new woman or suck it up and do it with her. His kingdom is at stake.
