IIRC, some clan actually did try to get on the show. I don't remember where I read that, but once they found out the team was experienced they didn't let them play. Too bad http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

IIRC a clan from the TW community applied to go on TC, but were rejected when they admitted they were experienced players. They were told that the show wanted to see how normal people who had little or no strategic experienced would fight the battle. But i guess i missed the point when they allowed Military cadets play and not us..

The Magic hill syndrome as i call it, can't really be helped. It's become common among people to think that holding that high ground will guarantee them victory due to movies and the like, and in some cases this is correct (i.e if their army had some sort of powerful missile units like longbows it wouldn't be hopeless). Yet in many others it is not. In Chalons the team tried to hold the hill with a cavalry heavy army and stood around getting shot. At many points they could have retained control, rode down from the hill, and counter-attacked, only one of the lieutenants used his cavalry right, the others just stood around waiting for orders that never came. Old Attila must have been turning in his grave...

In Telamon we saw thousands of Gauls rush to the top of the hill and refuse to move, and even when they discovered they were flanked, they decided it's ok cuz we're on top of a hill. I mean even at that point, i think most of us here would have ordered an all out charge against the northern Roman army just to do some damage and possibly destroy them. If you listened one of the historical experts actually told them what they needed to do right from the start. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif

Yes some are suicide, but others are not. In Gaugamela the team did not to bad of a job. Except for a few things they screwed up on (which I won't say as TWC is about to put it for D/L and many don't know what happened yet)

And yet more choices are suicide. Adrianople, the team piled in unit after unit into the wagon circle until their legions were so packed in and so squished together they had no room to maneuver, eventually being hemmed in by the Goth cavalry and trapped inside with no way out.

IMHO, the main problem is having two Generals. As far as i can see it always turns into One general leading and the other just standing there. Very rarely (Gaugamela) do they share power and coordinate their plan to win. More often than most (at least the episodes i have seen) it turns into one general leading while the other is content to just stand and watch talking only to his other general and not getting involved much.
