Hey guys,

One thing that i personaly think would add to Rome's atmosphere is a feature that lets you read parchments of previously large battles that your men have been a part of.

in Star treck armada 2, after the game was completed you could access a "history" page that would show you every battle your units took part in and even recorded every unit you had and what it did...

Ie.

Voyager:

Victory in sector 456.33444
destroyed cube
destroyed bird of prey

Defeat in Sector 789.344
was destroyed by defiant

etc.

i imagine a RTW eg. would be...

Battle of Rome:

Defeat, Though you men faught bravely for the capital they were outnumbered and were killed to the last man

Battle of london:

Victory, Your men faced defeat, but valiantly stood their ground and held of against barbarian attackers and managed to capture their war leader Remember this day for years to come as a symbol of roman might

etc.

opinions?

IIRC the developers have said there will be fewer but more important battles in RTW.

It also does seem logical with the way army movement works as you no longer have to have each border province covered with an army but can have fewer armies to cover same area...I think

Having a history of battles and even of each unit seems like a nice idea. With battles more important you would want to remember them.

The idea in theory is good but how many battle do we fight over a campaign...we'd end up with ream and reams on what battles were fought.

I'm all for it.

Computer wargamers have been asking for this kind of feature for some time now. Providing a log file that lists details for all battles fought is a nice way of letting a user track his/her performance and would encourage the retaining of old saved games of note so they can be reviewed periodically and kept for posterity. Naturally the log file would only apply to battles fought by the user's faction (so the size of the file would not be an issue).

With respect to individual units a log tracking each one's 'martial career' adds a bit of light roleplaying to the experience and can really foster certain affections for unusually hardy and/or capable units. But I think would be a bit much for a game like RTW because all units of the same type have the same name.

In line with what CBR says, I'm for it. Otherwise it would become tedious when for the n'th time you got:

"Your men utterly annihilated the enemy."

it will certainly add "atmosphere" to the game and it is probably not too hard to be done.

it would be nice if we got to write a few comments of our own after battle and have them also kept in the logfile along with the rest.
