I'm thinking of throwing my hat (probably with head attached) into the ring. I've got Wes's Med Mod installed which still leaves the original game available except for unit name changes. Would this be compatible with non M-Modded players or would the mod have to be uninstalled? I'd hate to do that since I think it really improves the SP aspect.

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere. I'll probably have a few more questions before I do my Custer imitation online.

Tks

If the unit names are changed, then I think that would cause problems. It would throw the games out of sync, if you can even join the game in the first place. Try it out and see if you can join a game withuot it saying theres a conflict in joining a game.

You could make a second install of the game for multiplayer, and keep Medmod installed if you have an extra 2 GB of disk space. To do this you may have to uninstall. Before uninstalling, copy your \savegames folder to a new place using the file explorer. Then install the game, install the patch and copy the whole tree to a new root folder under \Total War folder so that you have two full games installed. Next reinstall Medmod. It will use the registry key entry mtw created and install to the default mtw location. I don't think you get a choice on this. Copy your saved games back to \savegames under this same default location. Rename the Medieval desktop shortcut to Medmod or something like that and add in the -green_generals and -ian arguments on the target line if you use those features. Lastly, create a shortcut to the medieval_tw.exe of the second mtw (clean copy) on your desktop. Just drag and drop the medieval_tw.exe of the copy onto your desktop to do this. This is the one to use for multiplayer. You'll have to setup a Gamespy account and fill in the same info on the multiplayer menu page of the game: email, username, password and CD-key. Use caps-lock when entering the CD-key, put in the dashes and hit return to save it then click continue and you should get logged into the mtw foyer.

Thanks all,

I think I'll do a second install (that rhymes by God).

Right now I'm trying to break myself of my hit pause key affliction when I lose track of who's where and why.

BTW, it seems to me that, in Early anyway, the Byz seem to be the toughest being able to use hordes of fairly decent (if given V upgrades), affordable infantry and pretty good cav. Am I wrong? I've been practicing using them pretty much as the default enemy.

The replays from the Test of Time Turney have helped A-lot
I get the feeling that I'm going to have to be applying ice to a bruised ego on a regular basis at first though.

Thanks

Cid,

Yes yo are right about the bruised ego thing when playing online. Just remember that it is really a different game altogether when playing online.

It's very much like the good old days when DOOM first came out (Cripes anyone besides this old geezer remember DOOM?). So often people would thump their chest about what a great player they were and then proceed to get annihilated in deathmatch. Playing an AI no matter how well constructed is never as challenging as playing a human opponent.

Also keep in mind that online play truly is a completely different game as far as strategy and tactics. Just accept the fact that you know nothing and go in with the attitude that you are there to learn. There are tons of great threads here and elsewhere regarding MP play, and most of the folks you will meet online are courteous and willing to help with advice (after of course they have pummeled you into the dirt a few times)

Good Luck
Be a Brave Soldier
See you online

Tell that to Kasparov http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif Did I spell that right? hmm...anyways, don't be afraid to take advice from people who know what they're doing. And, get valour upgrades

Too true my Duke Too true... Would that we could get the likes of CA to drop Florin$ to program such a massive AI. Who would need the headach of trying to play online then

One small problem though...... We'd all need hardware upgrades that would break the bank http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif
