Ok, this is the first time I;ve ever seen this happen.

I was playing france, Early/hard/GA.

All was well, united france, kicked out the english, took a couple of german provinces and charged off with crusades as soon as possible in hopes of getting them all for me, and to get a citadel in tripoli, it hadn't even got a fort when I got there so I was very glad of setting out early, even if it was VERY hard to defend.

So with tripoli mine I send another crusade, this time to palastine. This one is better equipped, takes slightly less time to get there and seriously re-enforces tripli when it arives.

So, pretty much as soon as the second one got there I launch yet another crusade, this time to Armenia. Both the previous crusades had gone through byzantine lands, greece, constantinople, trebizond. I was allied to the byzantines throughout and they seemed happy that the turks were focussing on me, not them.

This time, the crusade went into greece, next year I get the message 'Crusaders loot greece, you gain (just over a thousand florins)'. I'm not sure if any buildings were destroyed, but I assume so, and the byzantines remained allied to me. I think 'Thats odd' then move on to constantinople, and lo and behold, the next year 'Your crusaders loot constantinople, you gain (just less than two thousand florins). I again, think thats odd, and move on, this time to nicae, and they DON'T loot it. I move to, um, the one next to nicae, which had been turkish, and was under seige by the byzantines, and AGAIN they loot it, but this time, probably because it was under siege, they only get 70 florins. Needless to say we arrive, conquered and set up home (I love having the french crusader kingdoms).

I also noticed that when we looted, it seemed we didn't lose ANY troops from the crusade, when we had been loosing from 250-500 to desertion and illness in every none-catholic province before then.

Anyone had this happen to them? I loved it really, VERY historically accurate. The years were 1147, 48 and 50 respectively, the gap being nicae.

yeah, it's great for crusades to loot. you can't seem to control looting though. I would sure like to loot every province I come through.

I don't think it actually destroys buildings or anything nor does it require military power which is inaccurate. It's not restricted to non catholics either.

Once as the English, I had all of the steppes except for Volga-Bulg and had a spanish crusade sitting in Muscovy (mine) dwindling away since they couldn't take on 3 stacks of rebels. Though they had about 50 men left, they looted my province for a few years in a row

I took Volga-Bulg just to spite them and to try to make the crusade disband so I don't get looted but it resulted in it asking me to turn over the province. Out of spite I said no, was excommed and got an excuse to wipe out the spanish in 2 turns. I had naval dominance and hence landed on every one of the 7 provinces one year and stormed their fortifications the next. My most successful amphibious operation to date. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

You loot the money from the coffers of the victim, as any Byzantine player will attest to. And I think it only happens if your crusade is much bigger than the garrison there.

are you sure that it has to be bigger than the garrison?

in my english game, the spanish crusade was maybe 1/10 of my garrison and it repeatedly looted me
