I've been playing a mostly peaceful Italy GA game, where Ihad built up a huge trade empire and taken over only a couple provinces, including the three crusade ones. Once I got to high though, I got no GA goals besides homeland and conquest, and in the fact the only faction to get any was the HRE. Is this supposed to happen?? Because of this I couldn't do much but try some more conquest, and as a result now I'm at war with basically everybody, including the Pope, Byz, huge Spanish empire, Golden Horde, hungarians, etc. They all attacked me once I had taken a few more provinces, even though I'm barely bigger than most of them and was allied with most also. The Byz backstabbed me after almost 150 years of alliance, and me saving their butts from Golden Horde sieges about 5 times. Why are there no GA goals??? This senseless chaos could have been avoided if I had something to do besides warmongering...
don't you get the cathedral in tuscany GA and most trade? war would kill your trade.
You should look at the homeladns carefully as you may get new homelands which would force you into attacking some factions.
don't worry about the byz, they are jealous of naval power so they'll attack sooner or later anyhow

In my early GA Italian game, I got the same thing. I went over 200 years () without a war, and then I went on a merc rampage taking most of Europe. I got the same situation where the Byz attacked me even though we have no common borders. Now in about 1360, the Byz have no navy (no one does except me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif ) and I only have a small problem keeping provinces from joining me That and the Spanish came back, in Switzerland to boot.
Now as to goals, trade is still a GA goal, though it is only checked every so often. Since I made treaties with everyone except the Hungarians and the Poles (who both refuse to so), my trade has started to boom and I have been more focused on moving trade and farming up.

It's now well past 1260 and there are NO GA goals listed besides Homelands and Conquest for any faction. is this a common bug?

I've found that the goals are not posted every turn (trade for example, pops up when you are near one of those dates for scoring).

1. do you have the Viking Invasion installed, too?
2. is your game patched at all? what version are you running?
there were serious bugs in the GA single-player campaign before the Viking Invasion expansion/patch. you might need to update.

No, I'm all patched up on this one...i can't explain it. I HAD the trade goal before Early ended, but then it disappeared, and no one has anything now... :( If I wanted total domination I would have said so.

I was playing an Aragonese GA game yesterday. At the beginning of the campaign, one of the goals was to crusade to Antioch.
As soon as my crusade landed there, the goal disappeared from the scroll not giving me any points (it happened in the middle of the Early Period)... Egyptians held the province before my troops arrived, so the goal could not have disappeared because some other catholic faction had taken the real estate.

and... the crusade goal never came back... the Aragonese had only homelands and conquest goals from then on (it's 1435 now...)

well, i'm still ahead of everyone in points... but mostly because other factions perished and then re-appeared with zero points in their account...

Every time i've played GA that particular goal (if i had it) vanished as soon as someone got it, me or others. I don't know if it awarded points (it;s only one point anyway isn't it?) but in my French GA game the germans got it (I got the other three) and for the french it;s also a homeland province, but the second the germans sucsesfully crusaded there it vanished as a homeland aswell, and it was worth three points a go as a homeland
Methinks it;s bugged

nope, in my case no one got it... egyptians had it from the beginning of campaign... and it was worth around 5 points for Aragonese...
as to homeland provinces: those are era/year specific. some appear, some disappear as the time progresses. the crusade goal should be available until the beginning of the high period though. at least, judging from its description.

Argh...How could patched VI still be having these problems??? Early era was a blast to play in working GA mode, it really adds a lot, but once it starts bugging out it takes so much fun out of it...Is it too much to ask to fix this mechanism?
