How do one increases the number of units in the initial Crusade or Jihad? Time needed? Increasing cost? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

wes did it by lowering the trainig cost for units that appear in a crusade/jihad. (from 650 to 150 for heavy cav or something like that). But maybe other things are involved.

A long time ago someone from CA said a bit about this, think it was Cpt. Fishpants or Eat cold steal.
What happens when you start a crusade/jihad, or a faction re-emergence or faction appearance(like Golden Horde in 1230) happens is that the appearing army is given units for a predefined and hardcoded sum of florins. I suspect this sum increases with difficulty level, at least so for faction appearances and rebels.
The solution is then, as cutepuppy noticed in MedMod, to lower the unit cost and/or increase number of men in unit. This of course also works for faction appearances, so this way you can make the invading Golden Horde more powerfull.

Thank you both very much. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ht_bow.gif
I got surprised by Crusades, Jihads, and specially, Loyalist Rebellions on MedMOD. That was the reason for the question... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

Increasing the cost of a Crusade/Jihad also increases the number of troops.

Absolutely sure about that? I've changed the cost many times, but have seen no effect on the number of units I got.

Did a search and found this by Eat Cold Steel:

Your army will be given a number of koku depending on the kind of rebellion. In the case of a "crusade" rebellion it is worked out from the piety of you king, the faith and zeal of the region.
