Ok where is he? Whats going on. He is supposed to be in Valencia correct? Early correct? Well he is not there for me on early. I don't get it. I just get some random gen.
What am I missing?
he should be hiding safely in his castle. He's there, don't worry. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-curtain.gif
at least he should be in his castle...
Maybe he got killed in an early battle.
Or assasinated.
Or he died of old age (oops)

Minikiller,
Go through your folders MTW/ Campmap/ Names/ Default Heroes. In there you´ll find El Cid under "Rebel heroes".
If not, type in this:
"El", "Cid", 1054, 4, 5, 4, 3, 3, attacker2, GENERAL, ID_VALENCIA, 1 //El Cid

If he's in his castle, send one unit to attack the provene and then call of the attack. The next turn the whole stack will be together outside the castle waiting to be bribed.
This way you won't have to bribe one stack only to have to fight the other.

right then, i'm assuming you have VI, if he is not there, make sure (as was mentioned earlier) that you check the castle, also, how many years into the game are you, if you are a long ways in he may have been kia kffoa (killed from freaking old age) so, if you are a ways in, and there is no one their by the name of El Cid, is their a general with 5 command? if so, thats his his heir. i donno if this helps u any

He is born in 1054. If the campaign starts in 1087 he will be 33 years old, which makes him old enough to be a general. Just like heirs, heroes are born at a certain date and they have to be 16/18 to be a general.

got ay but that doesnt explain why there is no castle or cid.
best explanation is that he got killed.
if owned by another faction, he went down valiantly with the rest of the forces.
if still rebel owned, he gallantly sacrificed his life for the freedom of valencia. right.... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Have you ever played with your HEROES_DEFAULT file? If you have, that would explain why El Cid isn't coming out. Even if you haven't played with that file, I would advise you to get a clean copy of that file and copy it over what you have now.

where could I get a clean copy?
No I never touched it I've only edited the unit prod and build prod from mtw and from vi unit prod. erm and I made backups of all 3 but never touched the names till just awhile ago when i check to see if el cid was even listed (he was by the way)
Minikiller, weren't you the one who went through the prod files and made all the units non-general capable? If so, it may be waiting to place El cid for a general favored rebel unit to be built so he can be the leader of it.

I made all my units discouraged so i would get 0 star men all the time, i like buidling em up myself if thats what u meant. but if cid is already supposed to be on the map could that affect it?
u guys say there is a castle but there isnt on mine.
It really sounds to me like it's trying to place El Cid, but discovering no general accepting units in Valencia so it's not placing him. Why not try making Jinettes recommended again, and then see if that changes the situation? If so, you know what the cause is, and can probably guess that all other general heros will have trouble emerging.

when i said castle i meant the genaric term for any type of fortification, if there is no "castle" there at all, it just hasn't been built yet. and like the other guys were saying, check out the general accepting units, and change if nessasary, el cid automaticly has five starz, and if jinetes aren't allowed to be star generals, there is your prob. (explained in a very round-about way in a futile attempt to avoid stating the obvious http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif )

I dont know why that would affect anything though.
It makes sence, sorta cause thats one of the only thing's I've changed but I love having everyone get 0 star gen and having to work em up, makes me m ore scared of 3 star gens and its way more fun. I can't see how the spu couldnt work around that casue cid, wallace, etc are pre-programed as gen's so it should keep em that way.
grrrrrrr

I just had a revolt in Serbia and it was a 3-Star gen if that matters he came out with stars.

Ask someone to e-mail you a clean copy. Replace your copy with the clean one. Not hard. When I screwed up my names file, I asked KukriKhan to e-mail me a good version.
Just re-install http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif Takes you 20 min
