Greetings,
This is my first post on the Org, though I occasionally post in the TW forums and try to at least read both on a weekly basis. The pitifully small amount of gaming time I have left (after a new house, a new baby daughter, a wife, and a massive project at work) is about to shrink even further as my wife begins to work at home (subliminal: shop on Ebay) one day a week. Of course, she uses the good computer (MTW machine), leaving me to the old PII if I want to do any computing.
The old computer was able to handle STW, and did until I had to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows. I'm about to put Shogun back on it, and am wondering (this is my real question) if anyone remembers whether it was the v1.12 patch or the advent of MI that lowered the cost/time of building contsruction. I'm actually keen to play it the 'old fashioned' way with longer build times for a change of pace, but I know that the AI got better from upgrade to upgrade, and I want to give old Machindo-san as much of a chance as I can.
In a loosely related vein, I have discovered a new 'Iron Man' rule for those of you who want to make your Total War experience more challenging: Play the game when your personal fatigue level is extremely high (4:30 am is a good starting point) and one arm is completely occupied by a colicky infant who will not be put down, even in the midst of a heated battle. Suddenly the AI becomes a much better general... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-juggle.gif
