Hi all,
I saw the question raised in an earlier thread, but it didn't seem to give a clear answer: mountains (height) and trees obviously impact various units. But what of roads, and (more importantly to me) shrub/hedgerows? Troops and cavalry both blast through them without slowing, archers seem (I think) to fire over them, you can't hide behind them....

So the question- are they just to add color???

Roads have no impact on movement and the shrubs/hedgerows are just..well to add color as you say.

AFAIK we have to wait for RTW for any effects from shrubs, dont know about roads..but one can always hope.

Yea, I thought as much. But I was kind of hoping.... it seems like so much of this game DOES apply plus/minus adjustements for so many criteria. So its really only hills (height) and woods that can be strategically manipulated, huh? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I think roads actually make the troops move marginally faster esp. cav but I maybe hallucinating.

the shrubs are just for decorations though.

I believe that roads make your units move slightly faster, but I don't use it that much. Much better to flank or go in the woods rather than march around in the open on roads http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif .

I often line up me arb line behind a hedgerow...now I wonder if its just for looks.

Check the new unit profiles on www.totalwar.com

Under special abilities for Velites it says Can hide in Scrub
