View Full Version : Point of Some Advanced Buildings?
Hi, does anyone know the function of university or a college of surgeons?
BTW, military academies are supposed to instill discipline. Does that mean my knights will be less likely to charge enemies unordered or that troops trained there would have disciplined status and ignore non-disciplined routers?
Can anyone give a list of the exact bonuses given by constable's palace, marshal's palace, and admiralty?
I think the first gives 2*'s but anything else?
The Berserk site has the best info on buildings and their effects.
University: meets some Glory conditions
Military Academy: +1 Discipline
College of Surgeons: population happiness +40%
Constable's Palace: redcues mercenary magnetism
Marshal's Palace: reduces mercenary magnetism
Admiralty: not much except the title

From frogbeastegg's guide :
Disciplined means the unit is less likely to chase off after enemy units when it is in the impetuous morale state. It also means that the unit doesn't care about routing units on its own side unless they are of disciplined or elite status. The death of your general also has a reduced effect on disciplined units morale. This means that routing peasants and the like can no longer panic your army. If a unit does not possess disciplined status by default the only way to add it is to build the military academy in one of your production provinces. This will not add the disciplined tag to your unit but it will increase their discipline slightly. Units like knights still tend to be impetuous even with the discipline upgrade.

so according to froggy's guide, it doesn't actually give the disciplined tag but does improve it a bit?
that sounds somewhat intangible so I still don't see that much of a point to military academy unless you are Turkish.
for the constable, marshal, and admiral, I was wondering the exact influence of the titles. I think constable is +2 command and the others also have command bonuses but I'm wondering what they are exactly as I don't recall and often have to debate on whether to build them now or save them for later.
university I know helps with the polish glory goal but I'm thinking of any other effects.
the college of surgeon was said to have an effect on health +1? does this apply to all men or just generals?
My question still appears to be the exact bonuses given by the titles from the buildings and whether it's worth it to build academy if not turkish and university if not polish.
thanks in advance. thanks ichi, but I don't think your answer fully addressed my question.

I believe that disciplined also affects the units formation somewhat, with neat orderly rows getting some sort of combat bonus. Also after heavy building (not sure about the exact combinations, prolly mil acad and University though.....) every unit built (possibly only in the well build up provinces...) comes with its own li'l general attached, 2 and 3 stars with rarely anything higher.
Not massively useful unless a lone garrison is attacked though it does breed continuity of unit due to the head dudes extra lives....
I'd guess that to be a disciplined unit, like the Byz infantry, your discipline score has to be above a certain amount. A mil acad raises that score but not enough to confer the tag on every unit.. Clearly some units are very poorly disciplined, Kerns and archers spring to mind, would be interesting to see if any units actually gain the tag from the mil academy...

What is the point of reducing mercenary magnetism anyways? Wouldn't you rather want your inns to be filled?
I'm pretty sure the titles of marshal, admiral and constable all give +2 command. Admiral gives +1 loyalty, marshal and constable give +2. I don't -think- this varies any between factions, though it definitely could, as the bonuses for titles are definied individually in the startpos files.
You probably would want your inns filled, yes. But if it's a choice between a slightly less filled in and making a 6 star general into an 8 star one, it's not that hard a choice - especially considering that just building bigger castles drives the mercs away anyway. With something like the constables palace...well, if you were a merc looking for work killing folks, would you want to hang around the cop station?
Sorry Katank, I didn't realize the first time when I made a reply that you wanted to know what bonuses the various titles confer upon the generals that receive them.
Look in your MTW directory on your C drive, in a directory called totalwar/campmap/startpos. Look in the file 'Early.txt', 'High.txt', or 'Late.txt', depending on the particular game you are interested in.
You can open these files using any text editor (I usually open it as a copy so as not to $cr*w up and damage the file) like Word or WordPerfect.
Down in the contents are lists of governor's titles and faction titles. Here it shows what each title confers (for each faction) in terms of command, dread, acumen etc..

cool thanks for the replies. I'm still interested to see which units get disciplined status from academy though.
