View Full Version : What is Time commander?
Sorry for not knowing this word.
All I know is that it is a TV show, I don't know why or how it is so interesting and related to total war.
Thanks.

Dont worry no one will kill you, everybody just wants to kill eddie Mair.
Time Commanders is a show based on Rome Total War. You basically have a group of four people who no very little about relevent stuff like ancient history nad total war games and get them to reenact ancient battles like Cannae (the humans were Hannibal) or Gaugemala (humans were Greeks), with the AI taking the other side. The show was kicked of as it were by two experts, one a fellow from Snadhurst and a second guy (several different people including Newsnights defence correspondent), who would after the battle provide a critique.
It wasnt bad except that the presenter Eddie Mair should have had a javelin stuck up his arse
AFAIK its only been shown in the UK. There is more info in the Coliseum.

IIRC, it's a special modification of the R:TW engine by Creative Assembly for the show. Whilst the idea sounds brilliant on paper, the execution and filming is a bit weak - best way to put it is that it feels like you're watching over someone's shoulder as he/she plays.
Plus, since the contestants have no real grasp of what each unit is capable of, the AI (I beleive it's AI), completely trounces them each time.
Nice snippets of history throughout, though.
