Yes, I have and it didn;t like it one bit.
I, the english, was invading a rebel province on the borders of england, france and germany.
It seems we all had the same idea, and, as we were all allied to one another at the time, we all desperately wanted this province.
So the pre-battle screen comes up and shows that me and the french, totalling nearly 2000 troops, were fighting against the nearly 1000 rebels AND over 500 germans
They didnlt even show as nuetral, they got bumped over to the other side, despite being allied to both me and the french seconds before
Needless to say I let the french charge off and butcher the germans, then pull themselves together to get slaughtered by the rebels. I never touched a single german man, made sure not one arrow was fired at them. When the french fled the field I mapped up the disorganised rebels and took the province for myself.
Then, after the battle I am now at war with the germans, AND the french
it ruined my tenuous peace that did, and I was forced to smite them all mightily. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

ah yes, sounds like another example of that severely flawed alliance system the game has...so anyone else had a 4 way or more?

Yes, I've had a 4 army battle once. I played the French when I had a civil war. One of my stacks is Flanders went rebel so I knew I had to fight them the next turn and sent in reinforcements. The English and Danes saw a oppertunity and both invaded Flanders together. Now I had to deal with 3 enemy armies in 1 battle.
Fortunately the French rebels, with a prince as their leader, were no friends of the invading armies. And since I was the defender and they the attackers, they all started at the same site of the field.
So I didn't had to do much. The rebels started to fight with the English and the Danes. The English army was beaten and fled the field. Only a few Danish units ever reached my defensive position.
In the end I only had the deal with the remaining rebel units.
Before the battle it seemed there was no way I could win this battle and I would lose my richest province. But it ended in an easy victory, thanks to my rebellious prince.

I once had a 4 army battle too, when playing the Byzantines... I wanted to get rid of an useless heir to the throne, so I sent him into Syria. Two turns before, the Turkish had re-appeared over here. I bring in my prince, and the Turkish face a rebellion... And at exactly the same time, the Egyptians thought it was a good time to reclaim their lost province (they lost it due to a civil war 10 or 15 turns before).
So, OK, it was not really a proper 4 army battle (as I just wanted to send my useless prince on a suicide mission), but it still was a funny coincidence.
Also nice to see the other armies slaughter each other. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif

Once had a four way when my Viking allies invaded a rebel province at the same time as me just as the Scots re-ermerged in there.
As a result, I just marched along behind the Vikings curiously as they slaughtered both opposition armies while unleashing my cavalry on routed troops and raining down a few arrows.
Not something I'd wish to do every battle, was a bit too easy tbh...
They don't always help you take a province. In one battle I fought more of the enemy than my ally, but since they had the larger army they got the province, http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif .
I had a 4-way battle once as the Hungarians.
I invaded Rome, which was occupied by the Sicilians along with the Italians and the Pope. Their support consisted of exactly 200 Italian infantrymen and 70 arbalesters on the Italian side, and the Pope with nothing but his bodyguard. Which means that although they fought bravely, there wasn't much in the way of tactics involved in this battle, since I had simply started this war as an excuse to get rid of 3,500+ superfluous feudal and chivalric sergeants. And armoured spearmen, but that's besides the question anyway. I charged in headlong, soon after the Italians charged in, and then the Pope. I achieved victory through numbers, turned back south to Napels (which I had already conquered a first time 2 years earlier) and went on to grab and hold Sicily. The Pope managed to drive the remainder of the Sicilian forces out of Rome and defeated them in Napels in the end.
In short... not much excitement to be had there. I'm still waiting for those huge battles from the box cover to happen in my campaigns. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
