If you saw this moovie, do you remember when the British Cavalry starts the pursuit of the Mahdi.
Then suddenly a bunch of Mahdi jump out of the sand, butchering their way through British horses and riders.

This sounds pretty Hahshashin-like to me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Also note the british cavalry commander has many many hit points as he takes out several hashashin by himself

Very funny scene http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

I've heard of the movie, though I can't say I remember it being in the theaters. Is it any good?

This film has quite a history: was originally made in 1915, remade in 1921, remade again in 1929 with Fay Wray (who 4 years later was the gal held in King Kong's hand as he climbed the Empire State Building) and William Powell, and re-made yet again in 1939 The '29 version (I think the '29 one) is considered a real 5-star classic, although its been largely forgotten to the passage of time.

The movie was remade AGAIN in 2002, which is probably what Kulgan's referring to. ShadesWold is probably referring to the '29 version, as 2002 can't have been that many ages ago. The 2002 one didn't get such great reviews. But its certainly easier to find at Blockbuster... The older one requires a bit more searching, and an aptitude for old b&w film (which, personally, i love...).

I don't know whether any of them are historically accurate.

I agree that four feathers wasn't that great of a movie. Some of the battle scenes were cool but the story was pretty much crap.

The Seventies film version of the book follows the actual story much better than the bizzare direction of the 2002 film. The 2002 film actually changed every major charactor including the major thrust of the story. very strange.

Pindar - do you know if the story's 'real', or is it just a fiction novel?

Was a good movie and based around the Majie? uprising aginst the English in Sudan; I think they besieged Kartoom (not the correct spelling)taking the life of Sir Gordon in the process....
