Hi, All http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

The Beginners' Guide to MTW is superb Very well done and congrats to FBE for what must have been epic typing There is nothing though on being able to assault Forts and Keeps with Wooden Walls without using Siege Engines and just using your own troops. Preferably, of course with cannon fodder troops like Peasants. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I mention this specifically because when I was using the Hungarians, I stopped attacking HRE provinces when I ran into their forts, not realising that that it could be torn down with your troops bare hands if its made of wood. Cost me 10 years of foot-dragging while I waited for siege engines. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

welcome to the forums, jaggy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
yeah, using the peasants to thump down the walls or force the gates is great and they can suffer the boiling oil instead of my good troops.
you do know that there are an obscene amount of siege engines available in inns, right?
it's crazy how I can snag an entire siege train complete with mangonels and catapults that are also really low support early on (relative to other mercs) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

Yeah that's probably the other good use for peasents.

I would use auto-calc for castle sieges if it's MTW v1.1.

If you use VI, then you can take out small garrisons with not that many losses by using a single unit of MS or something and autocalcing. You can even do this for citadel level. Sure you'll lose many of your MS, but it's still cheaper than losing 300 peasents. Though admittedly, it's more fun to see a carpet of dead bodies around the gates (even though they are your peasents http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ).

Hi, Katank. Wish I knew about the boiling oil before I assaulted Constantinople. Couldn't bring down the inner wall so I assault the gate and the entire group got burned to sludge http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif Thanks for the tip on the inns ... haven't really tried that yet.

Hi, SoS. Thanks but I don't auto-calc any of my battles. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif Guess that makes a a masochist. Thanks to FBE, I worked my way to Feudal Sgts and I just love them They are pretty versatile and once you get them, they are good for about 100 years.

Hi, FBE. Thanks for the kind words. I am glad I was able to contribute something to the MTW community. And thanks again for a great guide ... it saved me a lot of grief
