Engineer. As a chemist (supposedly) I should be able to produce some rather entertaining methods of dismantling castles... and people too.
Of course, mine would mainly be an advisory role, I wouldn't want to go around exposing myself to harm now would I?
Spear infantry for me because I presume it requires the least amount of skill and I have no skills for any of the jobs listed.

Id have to say that id like to be a Swordsman, mainly because i would be just below the rank of knight but i wouldnt have a death wish or have sudden impulses to charge forces that outnumber me like 100-1 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
Since i have a problem with authority.
My best place would be a merc.
That way i can fight those i opposse, and get rich doing it.
I'd be the horse archer riding with the sultan himself.

I'd be an archer because, while I don't even know how to shoot one I've always wanted to learn.

Mercenary for me, I fight, i get paid, i die.
so is the life of a merc. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Cavalry (preferably heavy) because it would be fun to role over some lowly peasents.
missile cav of the heavy variety like boyar.
great to shoot up the enemy and then charge in and bust some heads.
can beat almost everything I see. what I can't beat I shoot and outrun. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Engineer, definately. I love throwing rocks. Watching big items fly, anticipating big crashes. Even the computer effects of a seige are fun. I nearly always command my own seiges, b'c its fun to break down walls, gates, etc.
Although I've found that auto-resolving a seige usually costs me fewer troops than doing it myself. Maybe I've got to improve my seige tactics. Anyone else find that auto resolving seiges is less expensive?
Can I pick something not on the list?
If so, I'd be the guy planning the whole thing - kind of a tatician who wasn't likely to get slaughtered by enemy troops or in a freak pikeman skewers friend accident.

So true http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
I consider a cavalry archer to be the most flexible and versatile unit type. The missile cavalry of good quality, well trained and equipped, mounted on the fastest and most reliable steeds of preferably Arab breed, is a perfect unit
If they cannot win a battle, they just waste their arrows and retreat unspoilt, leaving wounded and tired enemies to bury their less fortunate fellows
What good is a swiss pikemen unit if it so heavy that it tired so fast, and the arrow shower slowly eliminates them? Sure, they could destroy horse archers in melee, but before they are able to do it, there are not many of them left.
So this is why Cavalry Archer(havent explained before).

indeed, cavarcher is my second choice...very versatile, quite useful, the ones i like to have always in battle
all my battles with huge number of kills and single digit or even no casualties were due to liberal use of HAs.
I played early nov recently and fell in love again with those boyars.
they totally own, even in melee. esp. my jedi prince who took out half of a byz army by himself including a byz prince my valour 7 boyar was great. BTW, this was without general's bonus which made him V9. absolute slaughter. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I voted 'other' simply because I'm distinctly of the opinion that I would probably start out as class 'peasant', but my class would rapidly be upgraded to 'corpse'. I'm simply not sure if it would be a battlefield sharp object in flesh upgrade, or a tried to run away from sharp object but couldn't outrun horse and the king wasn't going to pay 2 florins to ransom a 1/3 florin peasant upgrade.

I think I would have to be Archer Cav, cos I am able to ride a horse erfectly well, as i used to hvae one, and at the same time, i am a member of a local archery club, but I use a modern compound bow, even so, i came 2nd out of the county in a competition 2 years ago
Now, who wants me to fight for them?

Definitely cavlary, for the following reasons...
1) Hollywood and the poem Charge of the Light Brigade not withstanding, most field commanders were very careful with their most expensive, longest trained troops, so you didn't get thrust into 'no-win' situations.
2) Why walk & march everywhere? Ridehttp://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif
3) Can you imagine the stench of walking in ranks before baths & showers caught on? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif Better to get up above it.
4) In cavalry, as long as you hold formation, you do have a heck of an advantage over any ground troops.

I want to be an inquisitor. NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION Plus you get cool red clothes and wide brimmed hats. It would be even cooler to be some kind of 'battlefield inquisitor'-smiting the heretics with my war mace

Archer because I can't ride a horse, the enemy troops are usually a long way off, and nobody expects me to stand and fight if they get too close.
Assassin or spy might have been tempting if I hadn't heard the grisly sound effects when one gets caught.
Assassin or Inquisitor.
Simply put,my temperament suits the job requirements.

Hey, Phatose, you 'da man Me? I wanna be an archer. I'm pretty good with a bow, and it would keep me far enough away so I wouldn't get hurt. And, no, I'm not worried about cav. I'm also pretty good with a pistol. Don't run as fast as I used to. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Horses? Been on lots of horses. Stupid, sweaty, awkward, lots and lots of work, and hurt immensely when they fall on you.
Viking Axeman......originally the family came from Scandinavia.....into France to successfully campaign there....into what is now England....and then Ireland. In appreciation of their fighting in England they were made nobility. A castle stands by cardiff and one by Dublin bearing the family name... Luttrell. According to history we were hated in Ireland for our cruelty. Guess we`ve mellowed the last several 100`s of years.

Well, while I sure have a fighting spirit, I haven't got the best physique for it, honestly. So I would've voted siege engineer, since that would at least be interesting, and I'm a software engineer by trade. But I ended up picking emissary, since that might have given me the best chance to prevent war and thus make a positive difference in the world. After all, while imaginary war makes for a great strategic game, in real life I'm sure it's a pretty miserable business. It's always better when peace and reason prevail.

doesn't matter that much.
if you would get a dental inflammation, you die anyway. no matter if you are king or peasant.
but as cavalryman, at least, you don“t need to walk...
