This thread is primarily aimed at Dirk. I will post here drawn maps that Dirk will hopefull convert into battlemaps.
Barnet
Fought in heavy fog, the battle of Barnet was fought on ridge on which the Great North Road ran from London to York.

Legenda: black rectangles are buildings, green spots are trees, green lines are hedges. Feel free to add agricultural tiles.
The attacker's baggage train can be made with carts set in a rectangle with tents in the middle. Shouldn't be too big.
I know that roads can't be made in diagonal lines, but I hope that you can make the best out of it.
Don't make the ridge too high. The battle should be fought in the middle, so the highest point should be there, slightly in favour of the defender. The defender should not be rewarded for going back into the woods.
I don't know how the armies are deployed but the attacker should come from the town. Ideally the attacker begins in front of the town and the defender in front of the forest. If it doesn't then should perhaps crop the top or scale down the top forest.
Edit: Please make this map of medium size.
I hope that this will be enough information. I'm curious how it will come out. If you get excited about making more, then let me assure you that this was the easiest one http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Good luck

Is thier a War of Roses mod? I think i remember hearing about it way back. It sounds good, I have liked the era ever since my good pal Blackadder ventured thier.
Duke John,
Allright. Now I see what you mean. Receiving you're 'commission' yesterday I get straight into gathering info about the 3 battles mentioned. Barnet will be the first to 'arrive'. One thought though: You place the attackers in front of the town of Barnet in the south of the map with the defenders in the north. Although this may be historicaly correct..the game always puts the attackers in the north (there is no way around that as far as I know). I'll have 'flow with the tide' and subconsequently you'll find the town and attackers in the north (it's all a matter of perspective anyway).
With you're map and other details I found it will be fun to get to it. Probably this weekend.
By the way......are you truly a country man of mine or from Anglo Saxon stock and living in the Low Countries ?

Just in case you didn't know: If this is for a "Historical Battle"/"Historical Campaign" you actually can make the armies start wherever you want, as you can specify x y starting coordinates on the map for each unit (and heading, formation etc. as well).

No, not an exile, I just happen to like the Wars of the Roses alot. Although I might be a Englishman in the future, this vacation we will be exploring Scotland.

I only tried mapmaking a couple of times, and I wasn't sure where attackers/defenders start. I'll remember it for the other maps.
Edit after reading post of Norsman: this map will be both for historical battles and regular (mp/custom) battles. And I did know that, still thanks for pointing it out.
Cheers, Duke John
Ah...we might have a small problem than, as I'm not familiar with the X and Y starting coordinates.
Option: I'll make the map keeping faith with historic reality (defenders in the north etc) and someone else will have do the coordinates-'thingy'. Is that acceptable ?

No, you got me wrong The map will be used for historical battles, but I am only asking you to make the map. That would already be fantastic I will take care of making historical battles.

Yes I know http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
OK, Duke John, but (forgive me for keeping at it) what is the best thing for me to do: Please, first read the 'Topic: Battle Map Editor - Q & A's, For MTW battlemap editor'(the last entries by Antalis)
1- Shall I go with the game-->meaning: Historically incorrect landscape or 2- Redesign the landscape (historically correct)?
It's your party but going for option 1 I can battle test the map.
I do not have any experience in modding so I don't know how your work will be influenced by the north-south thing.
By the way: If you want to talk about this you can call me at 070-3146123

The map should be flipped. The attackers should come from the town. I would go for historical accuracy as much as possible but if this puts the defender in an awkward position then you may try making some adjustments. I definitely do NOT want a large hill at the back. Perhaps you can make a testmap with only elevation and send it to robgraatREMOVETHIS@hotmail.com I will then check wether it is what I intented.
