Hi, I'm new to this forum, even thow I've been playing the total war series since the begining.

In these days I've been thinking of Rome Total War, and of how the battles would be.
Right now the battles are always small. They are not real medieval battles, cause max you get 1600 people to fight at once, and the rest are reinforcments, while during the medieval period battles where done even with 10000 soldiers (the imperial legion normally had 12000, if we want to think of rtw).

I was wondering then if someone made a mod that:
- permites a undifined number of units on the battle filed. Not 16, but 20, 30, or what you got. A nice scroll to see all the units in the battle field. This meens that the blocks should stay the size they are (cause they really where like that) but have a lot more units.
- Gets units to cost less, or more money income. This so that even the IA can have his big battle command.

I hope that something like this has been done.
Even if the 3D engine in mtw/viking invasion has not been made to well (so, too heavy) I would not mind playing in 'turns' even in the battle mode if I can have over 10 000 troops ready to fight

Ola,
Good Day&Good Play.

First things first

Welcome to the forum Britannico http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

About mods. I think that is not possible. It is hardcoded in the game engine (I suspect - without having any knowledge about such) so 16 will remain the max, yet. In Rome it increases to 20, I think.

About the 3D engine. No, it's not a very good 3D engine, because it's only a 2D engine. Wait for Rome for the 3D engine.

Thats a real pitty :°(
I stopped playing with mtw for that reason, *sob*.

As for Rome Total War I hope that they could get over 10000 soldiers per faction on the battle filed.
Those are battles that get me crazy, hehe.

Now I'm trying to find my cd code for mtw. I got the game from the closet and I cant find it :\

At least I could play multy battles to pass the time while waiting RTW.

Greetings, Britannico http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

Have you tried switching unit size to huge?

If your computer can handle the processing work, it doubles the size of most units, which doubles the number of men you can have in the battle at the same time.

However, it takes two years to train a new unit. Also, some units such as Ghulam Royal bodyguards are not doubled.

Nice tip Doug-Thompson http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Britannico do you play MTW or VI? If it's only MTW you can have my cd-key, because I only play VI.

How do I switch them to huge?
As for my pc I've got a p4 1900, 512 ddr
and a gf4 with 32 mg (I'm on a laptop)

It would handly a lot of stuff, but mtw has not been so well optimized (but who cares :) )

It's in the video options menu. If memory serves, you go to game options or some such link off of the main menu. Then you click on video options. Unit size is on a sliding scale. Slide it all the way to the right for huge units.

I believe that's correct. I set the size to huge and left it there so long ago, I've forgotten.

Sounds like you have enough PC to handle it.

Do, I hope, enemy get the huge units as well?

Thanks

Absolutely. Also, the number of people in one stack, or army of units doubles to 1,920.

note that using huge, some units that are BGs such as RK and Ghulam guards, don't double and thus are proportionally weaker relatively speaking due to half the numbers.

if you want to check this, use gnome to find is scalable column and this tells you which units respond to unit size changes. by changing this to yes for RKs and Ghulams might make them scale up but also may make things funky as they might be that way for a reason. I never tried scaling BGs but you may want to.

also, beware that using huge will cause each unit to take 2 years to build
