View Full Version : Arcamedies toys.
Right when the Romans tried to take Syracuse. The home of Arcamedies.Of course they didnt expect what happend next.
Arcamedies improved the firing rate of darts,he built seige equipment that could fire further with heavier shot and my personal favourite ropes latched on to romanboats and with the aid of counterweights lifted the boat clean out of the water and sharply back into it-many capised.
Would it not be cool if when attacking sycruse in 220BC to 200BC you had to take on that http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .

It would be awesome to have to fight his inventions.
Still they probably wouldn't show them due to game balancing issues.
I think it would be great to have a few surprises if you attack Syracuse built into RTW
I hope CA include some nasty defensive stuff for the city.

Yeah but isn't that slightly before RTW's timeframe?

Definitely Not. Smack bang in the middle of the Punic Wars
See here (http://www.mcs.drexel.edu/~crorres/Archimedes/Siege/Summary.html)
Nobody knows how Archimedes Claw really worked. The description of it given in the sources is vague to the point of uselessness. Yeah. clearly it was intended to overturn boats - some even say the long way. But how it was designed is not known.

They tried, once, to re-enact the Archimedes Claw on a Discovery program. It worked, with a modern boat roughly the weight of a Roman trireme.
Suffice to say, it took the Romans two years of continuous sieging to take Syracusae aftet their first disastrous assault attempt.
This raises a new question - Will we be able to undertake assaults from sea and land at the same time?

I too have wondered this. I suspect not, although it would massively frickin' cool if we could. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif I've already had dreams where I simultaneously attack Byzantium from both land and sea.....
It'd give island cities or cities with a harbor a real advantage if you don't have a navy as well. It'd be a nice surprise to see this in RTW.
