I'm kinda new to this, and i am really getting addicted. I have been playing the 2.0 version of VI on MP about a month now, and seem to be winning more than losing (always a good thing) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif However, I have recently discovered the 2.01 version, which seems to get me in a completely different MP server, with all the clan players etc.
I have some good allies on 2.0, and we were thinking about starting a clan, and wondered how we went about it etc. I am also getting into the mods, and have Napoleonic and Hellenic already, and i wondered if there are any more available.
I also wondered about the tourneys and clan wars, and how we entered them etc.??
Any help with any of these issues would be appreciated
Happy gaming one and all

A lot of the tourneys (Clan Wars included) are clan-based, so you do need to be in a clanto fight in the CWC or CWB - but some organized events, particularly the 1v1 stuff, are open to ronin such as yourself.
In order to be clan all you really need is three or four guys willing to say they are in your clan. You probably want to have a website, although really only a bulletin board forum is necessary. Think up a catchy name - something like MoD - Marsupials of Death or - SPAM - Society for the Protection of Australian Marsupials seems appropriate for you.
You need a charter and some rules and a code of conduct. For example, at RW we have no one leader, we are collection of ronin who have banded together (*thinks of Dennis in Monty Python and the Holy Grail - we're an anarchosyndicast commune, we take it in turn to sit on an executive council . . .) while other clans are very highly structured with a single leader and other officers.
It usually makes sense to find folks that you can get along with and who are on at the same times you are on. Clans come and go. Some clans grow too fast and let everyone in (Hey, wanna be in my new clan?) without agreeing on behavior. Do you want to be a 'good' clan and behave honorably? Or do you want to be bad boys who diss everyone and act tough? Find guys who you think will be around longer than next month.
You should go to all of the clan websites - there are links on the main page and in the Barracks forum - and look at what they have done. Copy from the best and develop original ideas. Talk with existing clan types for ideas.
Maybe what you might want to consider is joining an existing clan. There are quite a few good ones out there and by teaming up with veterans you can learn a lot from them, both about the game and about clans.

ichi, thank you for helping Sir Wombat. Those Klingons just sucked the life out of me, but they are gone now.
Sir Wombat, ichi has given you very good advice. It sounds like you have a nice core of players who get along to start a clan. Heed ichi's words about growth. Just as you and your allies have bonded over time and many games, so too should any new members who want to join. Get to know them and their style of play. Likewise, they need to get to know you and your style of play. A good fit between a player and a clan goes both ways - good for the clan and good for the player. We've seen several clans form and disband in a week or two because the members did not get along. Don't let that happen to you.
If and when you do start a clan, be sure to make the rounds to all the community and clan sites you can find and announce the formation of your clan.
About tournaments and competitions, usually those running them will post announcements in clan and community forums to attract people. These announcements usually give a general description of the nature of the tournament and where to go (web site and/or forum) to find more information. The announcement usually includes how and where to sign up.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do and here's hoping you'll stick around here and join in the discussion.

Well thnks for ll the suggstions guys And Hello to Vexilles... you going solo on here or wanting to join a clan yourself? I dont know if Syrus is going to come over to 2.01, but i will try to get him to.
I think I need a few more games of 2.01 before I seriously consuder this clan thing.. specially if I am going to join an already existing one.... I have no idea who's hot and who's not, whos willing to recruit new members, and who has a similar gaming style to myself.
Also, on 2.0 most players use 99999 florins, and some use unlimited ammo, both of which ae not to my liking... however, i stll havent got good wih 10k or less yet... about 20k is how i like it right now. Need to finetune my troop selection though... any tips???
Anyway I look forward to learning from all you veterans, and thanks again
Happy gaming, gl hf and live long and prosper

Sir Wombat de Funk,
I wonder if players in VI v2.0 are there because they don't know v2.01 exists and brings you to a different foyer. The v2.01 actually brings you to the mtw v1.1 foyer. You can talk to mtw v1.1 players, but cannot see or join their games. VI v2.01 makes some important improvements to multiplayer gameplay, so I think it's preferable to v2.0.
There are two other mods, CBR's community mod and barocca's STW mod, both of which are available and playable online, but still in developement. Duke John is working on a War of the Roses mod. It's still very preliminary, and he's looking for people to test it online.
I don't play 20k, but for 10k use your cav knights at v0, your pav xbows with armor upgraded and most of your sword/pole axe units at v3. Spear units are hard to use successfully because you have to operate them at low morale in 10k, and I would say take none or at most two of them.

Thanks again for the help and advice guys It's all appreciated http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif
Any ideas where I can get these mods from? Web URL's would be nice if anyone knows them
I look forward to getting back to the game after a weekend away http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-computer.gif
Is there any way we can get all the players on 2.0 to realise that the 2.01 is better?? And... why doesnt it appear in the Check for Updates section of MTW??? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
Also, is there any place for longbowmen in a 10k army?? or do pavise xbows rule when it comes to missile troops?
It seems that 2.01 is a whole new ball game to... all the tactics i used to use in 2.0 seem old and they seem not to work any more
Once again, thanks for the help and advice

A lot of folks use LBs in 10K. Remember that LBs serve a slightly different purpose than pavs.
I use my pavs primarily as anti-pavs - to keep the other guys pavs from shooting my inf. If I can get in a few shots at enemy cav or inf with my pavs then I take 'em, but the primary use (IMHO) of pavs is anti-pav. I keep my pavs in front of my fighters until the fight starts, then move back.
I use LBs at V2 behind my inf for 2 purposes. First, to counter any cav archer fire. Second, to focus missiles on enemy fighters as they approach and during melee. Two LBs focused on one unit on the flank can really hurt, then hit it with cav in the side and start the whole line running.
LBs can also be useful if, after the pav duel has run out of ammo, you can close on the enemy and shoot at will. also, at V2 they can fight and are useful as flankers or to fill in holes in the line.
I see players try to shoot pavs with LBs, and I just think thats a waste of florins.

I think spamming about the patch is a good idea, cos there are lots of users who dont know anything about the patch, I have tried to tell as many ppl as possible, but i cant be there all the time, lol
Anyway, we need one place for MP MTW, it just confuses the noobs and less computer literate people to have different servers

Don't worry, Gregoshi. I thought it was quite funny People are just reading down the thread and then they see And get that clown out of here and then the clown protests. Also the smileys of a guy with a gun pointing it at a clown is too much for me to bear.
