We have 2 seperate castle lines, one for good factions and one for evil factions. We thought this could be easily modded, but that wasn't the case. It took me quite a few days of debugging and some tricks to make it work. Now I'm finishing up, but guess what, M:TW refuses to start :wall:

I don't know when we can beta test and I don't want to estimate anymore. Over the last few weeks I had so many setbacks moddingwise, and real life interfered also alot. Although I've tackled most of the problems there still are some things that need to be done before a beta.

The resolution is the same, or sometimes even less because we need to put alot of animations in the BIF. But the 3D models made by Hoggy that were used to render the graphics were more detailed, so it does appear as if the resolution/detail is better. Still the same amount of pixels.

Is there anyone with knowledge with modding txt files in mtw to help us for finishing the mod (custom battle mod) ?
A lot of work is already done but the mod has stalled, thus, do not hesitate 1 second if you have the knowledge..., it could be never released...

BTW, the extended version of The Return of the King will be available on Dec 14, 2004. It will have an additional 50 minutes of film added to the original theatrical release.

I have the extended versions of the first two films and they are worth it.

Will this version have a campaign mode?

When i say
A custom battle map mod will be released before It means that most of the units and major battlemaps will be included. (Gondor, Mordor, Harad, Dwarves, Mount Gundabad, Elves, Rohan and Isengard)
The campmap version will have: a map and a background for the campaign, new graphics (infopics, portraits, icons, pieces).
Moreover, i began to add new sfx and musics.
We will do our best in order to finish the custom battle mod around christmas.

I can't wait to see this Mod.

I watched all three of the extended LoTR movies this week. Almost 12 hours of movie goodness.

What an epic - Peter Jackson deserves only the highest praise.

Being able to play this mod will be a true delight.

mmmm i cant wait to play this mod , but i have a kuestion , units of the battle of the last alliance can be used in the battlefield???? heroes like gandalf , sauron , or the mumakils or something ( you now , the elephants of the easterlings )can be used too??

I can answer one of your questions.

There are no heroes so no Gandalf, Aragorn, Frodo etc, it would have caused the team too much legal hassle had the lawyers from any Tolkiens related enterprise gotten their eyes on it.

General Questions


Q: What version of Medieval: Total War is the mod being made for?
A: Whilst initially (the 0.1-0.3 betas) being developed for MTW v1.1, the mod is now being developed for the Viking Invasion expansion (v2.0 and 2.1 of VI are both fine).

Q: When will the mod be released?
A: Unfortunately we can't give an estimate of this. We're all volunteers, and there is a lot of work in a lot of areas for this mod, especially since we want to do the best job of it that we can. If you want an idea of how the mod is progressing, check out this thread.

Q: Will anymore betas be released to the public prior to the release of the full version?
A: It is unlikely. When we began to move the mod to VI and develop the campaign, our working process changed from faction-by-faction to aspect-by-aspect (with all factions being developed concurrently). This was to ensure compatability, consistency, and balance between all the factions, and it is also significantly less complicated to use this method when developing the campaign.
As a result, we do not have another "completed" (or at least fully functional) faction that we could release as a beta. Instead we have a lot of partially-completed factions, and they are all going to be finished at pretty much the same time - and there's the final release. So you'll just have to sit tight. Smile

Q: Where can I download the mod from?
A: Go to the Downloads thread in the Official News Updates forum. You can find all the downloads there.

Q: Is the mod dead? There hasn't been any news in a while, can you give us something?
A: No the mod is definately not dead! The Dev Team is hard at work making this mod, and it is progressing nicely. We understand that everyone is eager for news, but we can only release stuff when it is complete. When we do have something, rest assured that we'll let you all know!

Q: Do you need any help? I'm willing to help.
A: We have a good team and at the moment it looks like we've got most bases covered. But we're always happy to get new talented members. If you think you can help, show us what you can do in The Pits of Orthanc.

Q: Why doesn't it look like the movies?
A: This mod is based on the works of Tolkien, not Peter Jackson. The movies are 'one group of fans interpretation of the books', and the mod is another. There will be similarities between the two interpretations, and there will be differences.

Q: Will the music from the movies be used in the mod?
A: No. The mod is based on the books not the movies, plus the music is subject to copyright. If you own the soundtracks and want to listen to them while you play, that's your perogative (and perfectly legal), but we won't be distributing or supporting the distribution of Howard Shore's music.


Factions


Q: What playable factions will there be?
A: There will be 8 Major (playable) factions in ME:TW. They are:
The Eldar (Elves)
Erebor (Dwarves)
Gondor
Harad
Isengard
Mordor (including Easterlings)
Mount Gundabad (Misty Mountains Goblins/Orcs)
Rohan

Q: What will the faction leaders and royal units be?
A: This is still to be finalised, but how it stands currently is:
Faction - Leader - Royal Unit
Eldar - Lord of the Eldar - Noldor Swords
Erebor - King under the Mountain - Dwarrow Guard
Gondor - Steward of Gondor - Guard of the Citadel
Harad - Emperor of the Haradwaith - Red Serpent Guard
Isengard - Chief of Orthanc - Uruk-hai Beserkers
Mordor - Lieutenant of Barad-dur - Black Numenorean Guard
Gundabad - Great Goblin - Great Goblin Guard
Rohan - King of the Mark - Rohan Royal Guard

Q: Will there be neato titles unique to each province on the camp. map like in MTW? And what about Offices like High Warden of the Tower, Lieutenant of Morgul, or Marshal of the Riddermark?
A: Yes there will be Titles for each province, and Offices (like the examples given in the question) for the various factions as well.


Units


Q: Will the Nazgul be in the game? How good will they be? Will they be on flying fell beasts?
A: Yes there will be Nazgul. They will be in 3 units of 3 Nazgul each, and will be 'unbuildable' (although it will be possible to retrain them to recover their losses, provided an entire unit doesn't get wiped out). They will be excellent generals, and cause fear in most troops. However they will have very weak attack and low personal morale, to hopefully keep them out of direct combat. Unfortunately MTW doesn't cater too well for flying units, so the Nazgul will be on horseback.

Q: Will there be Ents, Trolls, Mumakil (Oliphants), Dragons, Balrogs, Huorns, or the Army of the Dead?
A: Mordor will have an Olog-hai unit (trolls), but that's it for 'exotic' creatures.

Q: Will there be siege engines? Will there be Grond?
A: Yes there will be siege engines - most likely just catapults. Grond will unfortunately not be included.


Campaign


Q: I can't get the campaign to work!
A: That's because there is no campaign at the moment! The betas that have been released only enable custom battles to be played. The final release will however have a campaign, so be patient!

Q: Will there be special castles for places like Minas Tirith, Edoras, Barad-dur, etc?
A: Yes. There are some unofficial maps like these in The Pits of Orthanc, which we may well end up using in the game.

Q: What will the general battle maps be like?
A: We are developing battle maps to suit every border crossing in the game, and these will have a Middle-Earth feel.

Q: Will we be able to play as Frodo/Gandalf/other notable character from the books and will there be events such as The Quest for the Ring/The Return of the King/etc.
A: No. This is a Middle Earth: Total War mod, not a Lord of the Rings RPG. This is for both gameplay and legal reasons.

Q: What year will the campaign start in?
A: The campaign will being in Third Age 2954, the year that Mount Doom bursts into flame again. To place it in context, here are some notable events from around that time:
2941 - Events of The Hobbit take place.
2951 - Sauron declares himself openly and returns to Mordor.
2953 - Saruman takes Isengard as his own and fortifies it.
3018-9 - Events of The Lord of the Rings take place. (Although of course, they will not be a part of the game. Everything that happens after 2954 is up to the players!)

Hi folks


I have done some testings on Beta 7.0 and I have found a one explanation of the frequent CTD

It relates to one infamous ennemy of modders: The FACSHIELDS

Now with the symptoms:

Gondorian Winged Guards and Swan Knights systematically CTD
Sindarin units sometimes CTD and sometimes don't

These units have all in common that they are currently placed in Bif folders where other unrelated units have a facshield

As we know from the Org, this is a cause for quite random CTD

My solution: We need to avoid using these Bif folders if we can as the current knowledge at the .org was that you couldn't add more units in facshields folders

I will check to see if this solve all problems

Sindarin (all 3 units)

PS: I played a game with all the factions and all new units except the ones above and I didn't get any CTD.

The mod you have made thus far is amazing. Though I think the evil factions especially Morder need their morale a little higher as men, Dwarves and especially the Elves totally destroy them! Not even mass numbers make a difference ~D

Oh and whoever made the battle maps is a genius, they are truely amazing as are the units. Well lads, spledid work

Most of the stuff for the campaign is ready for a beta(map, pieces, interface, sounds and musics,portraits,pictures for buildings, descriptions for units, buildings and campaign, and many other things...).
We are currently making the techtree for each factions, then i suppose we will release a new beta with the campaign. ~:cheers:

The campaign in mtw in fact is ready, but many pics for building are missing and a specific techtree for every faction is missing.
If you are looking for informations about the progress, i can give you a link for an early stage of the campaign beta, but don't expect to play a lot with it.

If you look carefully, the campaign for rome is far from being perfect (even if it is already awesome) and complete, encaitar is working hard on it.

The campaign map could have been completed sooner with more people (it is sad when important members can't stick anymore with a project) or if i had spent my time on it rather than the battlemaps and units animations. A matter of choice and priority.

The message he has on the METW forum (linked above) suggests that the mod is done for the moment. He said that he's lost interest and may or may not pick it up again later. So, this really could be the last release if nobody comes back to it. He did say that if anybody wanted to work on it further they could get in touch with him if they needed his help. So it would seem, though it is a shame, I´ve not seen such beautiful units before, from what I´ve seen so far, they even look better than the vanilla ones, their weapons and shields don´t seem hover in front of them. And am I wrong or are they really depicted from eight angles instead of only four?

By the way, even though I´ve downloaded the campaign 0.7 I can´t start it, it won´t show in the campaign selection screen. It seems strange, since for custom battles an option saying 3rd age appears.

1- Medieval Total war & Viking invasion addon.

2- Metw 7.0 -> MetwBeta7.0.exe

3- (Campaign) Metw 7.0a -> Metw Campmap beta7.0a.exe

4- Patch to 7.1a -> Metw patch 7.0 to 7.1a (medieval).exe

5- The compressed files -> metw2.rar

6- Some more files in your mtw root folder -> metw.rar

Indeed this release is the latest release, and maybe it is the last release (well before, i was absolutely sure that it would be the last one because i thought first that not many people were still interested about this mod.)

Finally, i can see there is still some people who are interested about this mod, i don't think i will play the mod once finished (if it get finished) but i could help to finish the campaign and make a big install (the current one is a bit tricky :/ i guess i was lazy).
Maximus (from fall of rome mod) did a good job so far, first it was decided to make only the beta7.0 (custom battle) and finally we continued with the campaign and now i think it would not be fair to ask him more help again.
I got some pm's from people proposing their help, i will be glad to continue this mod with fellow modders !

I got the campaign to work, though the last files in metw.rar are still missing, the download in the metw forum didn´t work. Now they work, I´ll still have to install them. Thank you for updating the DL link. The size of 27kb is correct? The campaign map is truly beautiful, though it´s kind of hard to play, completely without descriptions of what building does what and lacking diplomats and princesses to spy the land.

Indeed, they look even better than the vanilla units. I´d kill for having the artistic talent to make those.

I noticed some problems with Isengard, however. Sometimes custom battles will ctd when Isengard units take part and there´s something wrong with the pike unit, once they move they don´t resume their formation but run wildly all over the place.

I think I'm like a lot of people who would be thrilled if the mod could be even more fully realized, but unfortunately don't have the modding skills themselves to actually do the work. I'm not sure what we could do to help- Play-balancing? Beta Testing? Tweaking things on the campaign map? Maybe it would help if you spell out, just generally, what still needs to be done.

It would be a shame to leave such incredible work unfinished, but I completely understand your position; 2 plus years is quite a time commitment to anything, much less a game (for instance it's longer than I lasted in college ~:) )

Thank you for the brilliant work you have done so far, and for offering to help others who could guide it towards completion.

I for one will be hoping for that eventual day with great anticipation !!!!!! This mod has such tremendous potential !!!!!

Was the campaign for this mod ever finished? I read the post by Icare83 supplying a link to the last release, but the download link isn't working: metw.net seems to be offline.

Can anyone provide a download link or give any further information? I know I am probably dredging up a very old project, but I'd like to see how far you guys got. I always fancied this mod for MTW rather RTW. Cheers for any help!

I installed the mod a few months back and had a problem with the campaign map. It was like the medieval map but with LOTR province names. The map was that of eastern europe and north africa. It happening again when i installed it again. Is the map fully workable?

The image for the map is large, if you tick the box at the end of the installation(Metw Campmap beta7.0a), it should run an app that will convert the textures for the map to TGA.
You can still run the app by launching some runme.bat files inside the installation.
It was done very quickly and for internal use for the mod team only, so the installation is very tricky, sorry.

That is bad. I can try to do something with the campaign, but my aim will probably be to make functional campaign with METW units, but with standard MTW buildings (simplified building tree) and other stuff, because i am not artist and I am just not able to make nice graphics.

And I have to say that I have never fully understood what were your intentions with good and evil forts... So I will try to make some simple campaign and then we can to do some work with it...

I'm willing to help now that the school holidays in Australia are in. I've been working with the unit stats to make it more Rock-Paper-Scissors sort of gameplay. It's coming along ok. I noticed that the evil factions are severely under-powered. So I'm working on that.

Sadly, I do not think anyone is working on this version anymore. I have my doubts on whether such a "merger" would work - they are just too different; besides, they've both already done most of the units, and that's just about the only thing they would have in common (sort of). Also, I think that there is no 'METW Team' at the moment, so it would just be the STW Team. I hope someone will take up the task of getting out stable, playable versions of both METW and STW, and I would offer any aid I can (in the form of public & dev. forums, hosting for releases/beta versions, etc).

i am atm take care of the unit-building-income balancing.

and possibly unit size if the support cost is to much.


if sombdoy is high knowledgeable in lord of the rings middle earth talking names of the region-units-races-history i welcome you to join. as brocca may need your info in filling out the description of everything... and seeing how brocca and ra's ghul were the creators of the samuri warlord mod. you can expect a swift and final resolution to this mod. and there being a completion and new hosted mod..

ok i finished editing the unit.txt for metw.

its balanced and the support cost works.

now onto the balancing of the farm income production. after i balance that out i will need sombdoy to begin work on the building's them self as what they look like when trained or training..

all they have for this is 3 types of buildings and in a hury they just had all the same buidlings look alike.. so it hard to figure out in game which ones you need to train cause if oyu try to right click them to read them you either CTD or get an Error.

i will also edit the years it takes to make these buidlngs. the tech tree is finished i just need to balance out the buidlgins and there cost to build.


im still lookin for sombody who wants to do the graphics of the buildings portaits.

thanks axel the mod itself is about 80% done you can still play custom battle with all the factions are done and the units.

but in campaign is not finished and it was put together in hury

my part in finishing this mode is balancing the units cost support and unit size for defualt settings along with editing the era description-unit descriptions and editing the names of the officers and kings.

but when it comes to graphics im totaly clueless. if you want axel see if oyu can find sombdoy who can do that. i jsut sepnt the last 24 hours reading up on LOTR history on wikpedia. i do have all the books i jsut didn't wanna sit here reading the books one after another for the next 3 mths..

anyways.. i finished gathering info on the factions and the era.

im gonna work tommorrow on the unit descripitons.

update progress.

unit_prod.txt finished editing and balance

building_prod will not touch tell we have better portraights and working campaing culture thingy. with descriptions and it stops erroring.. i'll do the decriptions but need sombdoy to make and add a few buildings i have in mind.

Description.txt as far as the % on this i'd say abou 70% i gotta rename the name area so when you right click the regions instead of land_reg_## you get the atual name of the region or when you conquer the region istead of wessex has ben conuer you actualy get the region name in the conquerer message.

faction and era descriptions i havr it completly on another peace of paper/txt copy...
just getting to display what is there is the part that is baffleing me. and since iim runnin on DR Pepper and Mug root beer for cafeine. i got nothing left im gonna go to bed and finish tommorrow.

the biggest probelm is is figureigout how to get around the errors that keap happening.as my knowledge of graphic and file source moding is barly none.

i think for the time being im gonna give the mod the basic building of the viking campaign and do the tech tree that way so there is no error when building things.

until i get an experiance campain modder recruited i will do a temporary patch jost for the current status of the game.

you will still have the camp map that was given in the 3 installs of the game.

but i will upload a smaller patch that will convert the units and the buildings to being MTW building tech tree.

the images of the units and the allegiance will remain but the future progress of this mod is in the hands of an experiance campaign modder.

maps and land brdige are already avaible.

so to sum up what im gonan do tell either i get better at moding or a experiance modder picks up the torch. is

the patch will include.

and new description file that will give descriptions of the middle earth units.

god damn it.. no matter what i do. how i do it. the game jsut will not accept any of my editing of the building production for this mod. but any other editing on any other mod it will.

im beggin to realy hate this mod. and am beggin to think it isn't worth it.

maybe a brand new mod in the possible future copying the units of this mod but transfering them other a brand new mod.. maybe..but right now i don't know how they made what they had as far as campaign moding...

the problem with that mate is that they all went to their big project with rome total war.. all the members are workin on the smil and middle earth for rtw.

and they stoped talkin on there forums. but moved to the chasmber of secrets.

but axel i can guide you on how to get the three downloads so ou can play the custom battles.

its simple.

first hit back a couple pages on this forum and look for icareu84 ..

the top two links still work. the first one is 7.0a the second one is link to the download page. hit the second one.

grab .

7.0beta
campmap.7.0a
then there smaller patch 7.1a

this will set you up just for custom battles after all three are installed.

you can play the camp map but i would suggest turning off.

tool tips- and all the tick boxes that give pop up messages for buidling production..

never right click any of the buildings. the units are fine but there not translate meaning they havn't been added to the description text in.

loc/english/descriptions

other then that you can still play the campaign that way

until i get a reply from barocca or my friend lars gets online msn.

i don't think i will be able to get a smaller patch...

un check all the box that would hav ea progress report of a building complete.

as for mordor-isenguard-any others that isn't catholic culter. i don't recomend you training crusades.

they are what i hav ebeen trying ot work on.

i was attempting ot make a patch.rar that would include land descriptions-unit descriptions. and the building production would be that of viking campaign but the units of METW...and the camp map of the orignal.

but alas any attempt i ever did failed. the hard coaded text of the era start pros is so confushing to me. there was no way i could figur eoit out.

my knowledge of editing txt is vast but thats just altering or editing. not creating.

so basicly i faild.


the three exes in that link i gave oyu is the instlation up until they left. there are two files missing there links are dead. but that is as far as they got as to what is left.

just follow my instrucitons on how to play the campaign

don't right rlick the buildings of the castle on the map. you can right click the units and the regions just not he buidlgins.

also click the show tool tips-faciton anoucments any box governing a event parmachy displying a pic of a buidlign being built.

with that all being done you shouldn't have any trouble playign the camppaign.

from what i know why modders gave up MTW for RTW is that

seige battles and calvary and ambushes.

although when it comes to computer using ambushes its so damn rare.. there is no strategy on there part and very easy evne on the hardest diffaculty for RTW egine

but the probably the number reaosn why i could be wrong but im pretty sure is the graphics feature and population feature of civilization.

(i personly) hate this feature in the game cause it make sit hard to train new units after taking somehting. but anyways thats th reason why they droped there projects on MTW for RTW is mostly the graphics feature and the ability to get up close to the battles and see the unit detail.

which is 70% of the time the reason for mods anyway to capture the players feel for the game.. the idea for more young gamers is not enough they need imagery .

Hi Icare, No, I was never angry at you and I did send the text files to you again!!!

I got tired because no one else was doing anything.

I had the campaign running great!!! With Naval fully functioning, land units adjuted for movement and defense and attack statistics etc. Also, I had the Castle build sequence with the correct icons working flawlessly for the Campaign Map.

I will see if I can find all these files, as I think I may have tme saved on disk, but they may be not the latest files I made. I can figure ourt the castle build sequence again for the Campaign Map I think, and with the correct icons.

I can look into this over the next week or so.

I had the game running nearly flawlessly, and there were only some bugs on certain battle maps and only with certain units sometimes, but usually the units performed fine. I made the units smaller, adjusted heights etc.

If I find the files and get the game running good, I can send the whole thing to you by airmail copied on a disk. Might be easier

First I have to find the files and get the game going. I stopped at the point where I was making icons for your Dwarven Mine, remember?? Also, you sent me all the Parchment files for the units you had made, the Orcks etc. Remember?? I was integrating those into the game, but also using vanilla and modified METW files.

I don't know if I have the LBM etc. photo tool saved or not, and I have forgotten how to convert graphics/icon files, have forgotten the sequence of tools to use etc. :dizzy2:

I have forgotten how to mod this game, but I will quickly relearn and remember after looking at the files and installing the game and mod.:wall:

I will try and help you and your friends with the info. I have saved, and I do believe I saved stuff, but it wasn't the latest version of what I did. I had a hard drive crash and etc. and then had another one, so I rebuilt my old computer and also have a newer computer that I built.

Also, I changed many descriptions of the troops types, and added more buildings and review panel icons etc. I did a large amount of work. I have to look for all this on disk, and as Isaid, I do not know if I saved my latest version and therefore will have to load the vanilla METW and Viking Invasion, get the patches for them, and then find the mod files, put them in and see if I can get it all working.

Will take some time.

Hi, Another problem I ran into was the Names file, the file where certai Personalities and Heroes appear at certain times. I could not get this to work as it required yet more time and experimentation and I was doing everything else that needed to be done. I could get no help what-so-ever with the Names file concerning Personality and Hero name changes.

For the Portraits of Generals, I simply used altered portraits of Mongols for the Orcs and Easterlings (added fangs and red eyes and chamged skin coor slightly for he Orcs) and I used Arabs and Turks for the Haradrim. For Rohan and Gondor I used vanilla and altered Vikings and Europeans. Icare and the originators of the mod had some portraits of Elves if I am not mistaken. So, this basically worked fine.

I had changed Parchment and Tooltip Descriptions of Buildings and Units but I was not quite finished.

Today is Sunday, and later today I may load METW-VI and see if I can get the files for the mod off of a disk where I hopefully saved them, but they are slightly outdated files.

I don't and didn't intend on doing everything myself, and any help and cooperation would be appreciated. It is aggravating to have people suggesting and only suggesting and prodding and being pesky and pesty yet these same people offer no help what-so-ever except to run their stupid mouhts continuously.

If Cegorach and others are working on this, then that is good.

A main problem with the mod was that the castle build icons did not show up properly on the Campaign Map, and I finally came up with the correct Castle Build Sequence and had the correct icons that I modded from the original mod icons, and I als used the vanilla Fort and/or Motte and Bailey for early constuctions of the Castles.

The original mod also only had one generic Evil and good building for use with all the other buildings in the game, such as blacksmiths, stables, etc., and I changed this and added the vanilla ancilliary buildings and some modded building icons of my own for the Review Panel and the Parchments.

So, hopefully, I can find the files, especially the castle build sequence, and I can send those to Cegorach and Icare, either on disk by mail or over the inet. I can upload the larger files and perhaps Zip the whole thing into one file, but have not used Winzip or RAR in a long time and some simple help in directions and some cooperation would be nice to have at times, otherwise mods never get finished.

The mod was great to play, and the battles worked very smoothly. There was a problem with the nagul in that they ran aimlessly all over the screen/battlefield, and I had that corrected at about 80% efficiency, smae for the Uruk-hai and Dunlending Wildmen but those Saurmanic units were functioning properly at 100% efficiency.

It was fun!!!

I am glad to have found icare again, and that Cegorach et al are doing some work on this.

I did not copy the files to a disk, as my old 40GB Hard Drive crashed, so I do not have any files anymore. None, nada, nichts.

I can take my old hard drive to a computer shop and see if any info. is capable of being recovered. It may be possible.

Your mod, with my alterations worked good, and the battles were smooth, as was the campaign.

All your sprites are great, and with smaller units of Orcs and other troop types the battles were balanced. I lowered Orcs to about 40 to 60 trops per unit I think, except perhaps the Mordor rabble who may have had 20 or so more troops per unit. The Morgul Orcs worked great and were tough t beat, as were the Uruk-hai.

All the good troops had their stats lessened, but they were still more powerful than the Evil units, but the Evil side definitely could win battles.

So, I guess I have to start from scratch, and I guess i could get the castle Build sequence working for the campaign. i can try again maybe.

I have another 80GB hard drive I am going to look at and see if I have any METW-VI-ME files on it. I actually don't know/remember but it seems I copied the whole game somewhere, maybe not.

The main problem with the Campaign was the Castle Build Sequence.

In the tactical battles the units did not fuction well because their reaction radius/diameter and sizes were off, and that is why the Nazgul and Uruk-hai and Dunlendings wandered all over the screen.

I have to relearn the system in order to do anything with it, but I do remember quite a bit.

I had campaigns running on my old computer that were working fine, with naval units and weapons and armor upgrades for the troops, farms, and other tech. buildings. I just used vanilla farms and tech. buildings, and made some simple modifications to them and to the Mod Buildings that came with the mod. It was all wotking smoothly, except I could not get the Names etc. files working for the Leaders.

So, I may/will try and get the basic Campaign working again.

Now, I have to find that 80GB hard drive and connect it to see if any files are on it.

Too bad this Mod never worked as released and people abandonded it, but I had it working fine.

Nice to meet you, and I have seen your immense and good work with the Pike and Musket mods., and appreciate your knowledge of history. I too am of Polish ancestory, 50%, my better half. :charge:

ZT's is a subjective know-it-all fairy-tale place BTW. I imagine the ?great, reincarnated 'kniaz'? still lies about people and facts, and misconstrues and makes a farce of actual history.

This Hyborian Age mod here also looks interesting. Never liked the RTW engine and screen graphics and I imagine METW2 is the same, but I will load them and try them again. METW 1 is better IMHO.

Now, where did I put that old 80GB hard drive, as it is not next to my old and defunct 40GB hard drive.

I had METW-VI working flawlessly with the correct ME Campaign Map (have to check the box on the mos installation and patch it to 7.1). I used a lot of vanilla buildings and the few buildings provided with the mod, and also altered the Camp. Map buildings. I was adding portraits, infopics. etc.

The game will not run without my files, so check with Jack.

I have not looked on my old 80BG HD yet for the files and mod and hope they are there.

I cannot break into my crashed 40GB HD that has the files and mod, although I will try again.

The mod was running fine, with Naval units etc., and I had several test campaigns going without any glitches except for missing infopics, portraits, and names. I could never get the Names file to work and I needed help with it, and when I asked for help at the old forum I was rudely snubbed in that I recieved no offer of assistance.

So, the heck with it. It was insulting to try and get help and deal with some of the moronic idiots that didn't do anything to help and only harrassed me.

What a joke. If I find the files and mod on one of my HD's and get it going again, I would be interested in finishing the mod, but I needed help with the names and the infopics. I used moddified vanilla infopics for some units and they were OK, along with the infopics you sent me. I have downladed Ultrapaint to work with the LBM's but have to relearn how to do all this and that would only take a short while (time).

So, please ask Jack for my files, and I think I may also do so, plus I have to check my 80GB HD and try and get in the 40GB HD again.

I find it rather strange the METW RTW-BI has not released any updates to that RTW mod, but I guess that is because it has been ported to BI. I look forward to this mod when it is finished, as I finally installed RTW again and also BI. I like BI but cannot stand the historical inaccuracy of vanilla RTW.

I presently have installed on my computer the Extended Greek Mod (XGM), End of days (great mod!!), and will also install RTR 7.0 Platinum for BI, and for the old MTW-VI have to install the GREAT XL Mod, SPQR, etc.

If I had gotten some help and cooperation then METW-VI would be finished or at least playable, since as it was released the mod was completely unplayble in campaign mode but I made the campaign run flawlessly except for the Names and more Portriats and Infopics that were needed. I also wrote some excellent Unit and Building descriptions and Tooltips, much better than the garbage that was in the mod release, and it was garbage to a large degree, very 'flowery', confusing, and childish language and writing style used for the Descriptions and Tooltips. My writing style is vasyly superior and to the point and without the silly Warhammer style of writing. IOTW, I wrote the descriptions with directness, accuracy, brevity as much as could be done, and with a good historical knowledge of Ancient and Medieval warfare.

Example: Who in their right mind would write a description of a horde of Morgul Orc Spearmen that contains a phrase such as 'spearpoints POKING out above them' or some such nonsense. Usage of the word 'Poking' in this respect is more applicable to use in a children's book!!! Warhammmer Bull Sh-t style of writing. 'Thrusting' or 'bristling' are much more appropriate words to use in place of 'Poking'.

I gave some earlier version files to Jack, the Jack fellow here in this thread, and he may have them, but he was doing some minor twesking himself and I don't think he actually realized that I got the campaign going and fixed the issue with the Nazgul Uruk-hai Pikes, Trolls, and Dunlanders wandeing all over the screen in a disorganized fashion. I don't think he knew how and simply didn't install my text files.

The game ran near flawlessy, except for a couple of very minor issues still left with the battles, and I mean very, very minor, unnoticebale almost, mainly with the Nazgul. The campaign I had running flawlessly, and the only thing that had stopped it from running good was the castle Build Sequence for the Campmap, which I finally fixed with much work, and I used the early Motte and Bailey for the original Campmap Fort for all factions, then I used the Campmap Fort Icons you provided in the game and used vanilla Fortresses and Citadels modded a bit to look like good and Evil castles. I modded the Review Panel Pics too, as well as the Info Pics, and it was passable. Same for many other buildings. Plus I had most of the Info Pic descriptions and Tooltips done for all these building. I also had a Jihad working for the Evil side and a Crusade working for the Good side, with Chapter Houses etc. and this worked well. All the Naval was about done, and I had Good and Evil fleets sailing all over, but I simply used the vanilla icons mainly for both Good and Evil with the longships and western European ships for the Good side, and Arabic Dhows etc. for the Evil side, plus I modified costs, battle stats, and speed for all of the ships and this worked very well, very balanced.

Check here every now and then to see if I have found the files on my 80GB HD, and if I find them, the text files (I know you do graphics so you will have to do all the buildings yourself for the game to work, and maybe I might be able to zip the building pic files and Portraits files, if I find them) at least.

I needed help with the Names file etc. for the Characters. Too much work for me alone.

OK, I still have to look on my 80GB HD for the mod. It was working GREAT!!! Naval, descriptions of units and building including both Info. Pics and Tooltips, etc. The Uruk-hai, Dunlanders, Trolls, and especially the nazgul in the tactical battles were not wandering all over the screen and were functioning as normal vanilla troops. I even had the all the cavalry able to dismount before battles using the appropriate foot troops.

It was great, and fun.

Yes, you helped a lot with initially explaining the file system to me and I couldn't have done anything without your help AND all the very informative and helpful instructions posted at the Org. and TWC. :2thumbsup:

Unfortunately the 80Gb HD I once had the files on was reformatted by me a few months back, so the files are on my crashed and inaccessible 40Gb HD. IOTW, we are sh*t out of luck, no files, all gone.

All we needed was some help with the Names file, writing a few more new Info Pic and Tooltip descriptions, and a few other things.

The campaign was working very well, very smooth, I had played all the factions and the campaign gave some good battles to play.

Yeah, it's rather sad, as MTW-VI is still played by a lot of people.

This is my first post here. I from Brasil and buy MTW a few months ago, I found this mod (middle earth) and download. But ever that I will play, in the loading screen enter this screen "Error loading screen", and the game crash.

Only in the Middle Earth campaing (custom battles works ok).

This mod unfortuantely died whn everyone switched over to mod RTW-BI and I don't think the RTW-BI version was ever finished either.

Icare helped me a bit but I got the mod working including the campaign flawlessy but I don't have the files anymore.

I hope Icare or someone gives permission to the Silmillarion Mod in order that SM can use the units that were used in METW-VI-ME. The units were great, and Icare has some good unit infopics.

METW campaign up and running but lost all the text and infopic and UI and etc. files on a crashed
hardrive, no on two crashed hard drives, and that sent the files to Icare (Renaud) but he also lost them??

Well, I found MOST of the text files and will email them to whoever wants them to test them. ALL building and text descriptions are done, including ships, and the naval aspect of the game worked fine using Long Ships as Elven Swan Ships, various Galleys as Gondorian ships, and Muslim ships as Hardrim and Corsair ships.

I never finished the names text for the leaders and generals and neither did the guy that worked on it before me, so that is incomplete.

Also, the references and descriptions of some of the buildings won't work because you have to have the info pics and strat map models for them named as they are in the text I wrote for them, but with a little work you can make this work or use your own files and graphics files.

Anyway, these text files are for anyone that wants them and I am sure much of what I did can be used.

Also, ALL the regions are named and the Tooltips for them and descriptions are done so the region text may work.

I had all this working with the 7.0 Release and the small patch for it, only that will goof this up now is that there aren't any info pics etc. named for many of the unique buildings so you will info pic etc. errors.

Also again, I switched Crusade and Jihad around, that is I gave the Good Guys the Jihad but in the descriptions it says Crusader Army or whatever since a Jihad behaved differntly than a Crusade in the game engine and a Jihad is more defensive in nature and can only be used to recapture provinces such as North or South Ithilien or what ever that have been captured by The Enemy, and a Crusade in the game engine is aggressive and more like Mordor and Friends' behavior and can be launched at any foreign province. So, IOTW, the Good Guys have Crusades (I used the name Crusade for convenience) that act as Jihads and the Bad Guys or The Enemy have Great Raids (instead of being called Crusades) that act as aggressive Crusades acoording to the game engine. This was tested and worked fine
through several campaigns I played.

The text files I am missing are the Troops Statistics and Characteristics files, all the numerical stuff needed to get the game balanced in tactical battles, have cavalry be able to dismount before a battle and have the correct in game Infantry model assigned to it so it looks like a dismounted Cavalry unit, the Higth and Spacing values I changed to stop the Uruk Pikes, Dunlanders, Trolls and Nazgul from wandering all over the screen in an incoherent fashion and I had them working great so they held formation, tweaks to manpower strengths in units and weapons and armor and attack values such as lowering the effectiveness of Elves and Dwarves but they were still very hard to kill and defeat, etc.

Missing all the Building Stats files, too.

Anyway, I am soon going to reload these text files into a new copy of MTW with METW 7.0 and patch installed in it, and then all I have to do is create/rename info pics and UI scrolls etc. to get the game working. troop cards in the battle screen may have been done already in the released mod, I
forget, but I know the description scrolls were only partially done so I had copied and renamed some of those for troops without them. Leaders Portrait pics were easy, as I just used Viking pics for Dwarves and Rohirrim and European pics for Gondorians and mongols pics for the Bad Guys, although I
did simple alterations to these pics and gave some Mongols red eyes and white/yellowish fangs to and blemished grayish skin to represent Orcs, but all the graphics files are gone. I sent all this to Icare but he says he lost them in the email, and I found these text files in my Hotmail as attachments to emails I sent to Icare. So, now I will try to find the graphics files in Hotmail or
on one of my hard drives that didn't crash, but I think all the graphics files are gone.
