Trouble with chat!

Does anyone know why I seem to be having trouble chatting to people pre game?? During the troop selection and faction selection screens i am unable to chat to allies or the game i am in I am able to chat to the room, but nothing else...
I was told it was because my name had spaces in it, but i replaced them with underscores and still the same problem...
Any suggestions??

Sir Wombat, you can check out this topic (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=2;t=6161;hl=chat+and+mtw) on the same subject. It sounds like there are intermittent problems for some with GameSpy. Keep trying over the next few days and see if it clears up.
