Hi, I figured this was too n00b for the dungeon and it may be a common question so I posted here. I tried to search for this but I couldn't get anything http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif maybe it's just me.

So I play MedMod now. It's wonderful, hats off once more to Wes.
I really like messing around with units, and there's a few things I'd like to alter in MedMod. Some things I just want to experiment with and some stuff I'd like to tweak just for gameplay issues (personally I think the italians' might have a little too uber of infantry core); and of course I'd like to reduce the amount of generals appearing to lead units.
Obviously Gnome Editor won't open the Build and Unit_Prod for medmod, so I went to xcel after reading a post about Polish Retainers no less.

I'm having trouble getting it to be readable. I'm not too familiar with xcel, but I can get by with it.
When the option box shows up after I open the file I've been choosing delimited and then I tried tabs, commas, and variations of those as the delimiters but that didn't work so well for me.
I'm assuming that Wes doesn't use Notepad to edit/create his files :)

Could anyone tell me which program to use to edit these files and/or the correct settings to be able to readily access the files using xcel?

Thanks much

Why use excel at all? As you've noticed, it's poorly equipped for the task. Download and use the gnome editor, it's most definitely available from the download section of the org. And it handles all the formatting nightmares for you, while still giving the functionality of a spreadsheet interface.

If GnomeEditor doesnt work you can use excel...at least to view the unit/build files.

I just select all in the txt file and copy it. Then create an excel and paste/insert special (whatever english version is called) and then unicode txt. That should keep all the tabs.

Is it possible to produce Ghazi Infantry in Med Mod?
In original MTW VI requirements was Ribat and swordsmith probably- don't remember.

I don't believe they are in the mod no.
