View Full Version : Medieval insults!
Does anyone here have any medieval insults, like in the tutorial the instructor calls you a wet-eared welp(sp?)
I'd like to go up to some people and spit out some old-launguage insults. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

Whoreson, whoremonger, poxed coward... Not strictly medieval, but Shakespeare has some brilliant insults as well.

Insults? I have some real medieval era Old English ones and a whole stack of medieval sounding ones. I love fiddling with language http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-grin.gif
Real medieval ones.
Odsplut
Golter-yeded gawpsheet
Curpin
Mundungus
Honyoker
mudsill
ballarag
borborygmite
scroyle
skellum
gundygut
Try Chaucer for many more authentic insults.
Others
Ah, so many of these it would take me half an hour to write them all down Even longer to read through my 'Machiavellian Adventures of Princess Eleanor' story in the Mead hall and note them all down...hundreds of them, gah Selected highlights include: scrubble, scrimble jawed slaggard, scavardly knave, trundlewit,...all the best ones need to be seen in context or they don't work so I'll leave those out.
May I also recommend 'taffer'? Wonderful word, made up for a game called Thief: The Dark Project and it means criminal lowlife. Wonderful word, it rolls off the tongue nicely, best of all it sounds so friendly so it is perfect for those occasions where you need something to say but don't want to risk your skin.

I was playing Thief and Thief II lately, and began thinking of modern insults that are converted into Hammerspeak (Olde English). Unfortunately, none of them are PG-Rated.
Example: (with the words edited, of course)
Dost thou sucketh mine ROOSTER like thine FEMALE DOG that thou art?
What manner of BUNDLE OF STICKSry dost thou lay upon me?
Verily, thine BABY-MAKING JUICE is much like a plump roast duck, for thine manservants enjoy thine taste.

Taffer: A rogue, thief, trickster. Expression most often used as a cuss-word and for name-calling, but also known to be adopted by thieves as a honorable distinction.

Here are some used by the more educated classes. Spoken in Latin:
Nati tibi similes in rupibus ventosissimis exponebantur ad necem (You ugly smeller of other people's private parts)
canis culum in tuo naso, Galli (A dog's butt in your face, Frenchman)
Utinam barbari spatium proprium tuum invadant. (May barbarians invade your personal space.)
Flexilis sum, gluten es, me resilit, ad te haeret. (I'm rubber, you're glue, bounces off me, sticks to you.)
