Archer formations...

Love playing with archer-armies. I can go all the way up to 10 A with 6 high def troop types and no one gets even close.
What bugs me is the extensive micromanagement I have to use when using archers in a battle even though I use "hold formation" and even "hold position" commands.

What I would like to se in RTW and this goes for other troop types as well. I would like to group, lets say 6 archers together and issue a unique formation for that group like this:

or

A A
A A
A A

or

A A A
A A A

or all in a single line.

I do want my archers to stay in place concentrating on following my orders but at some point they always move, get cramped and moves again and I have to re-arrange their positions all over again so the "pause-button" is a good friend, he he What do you think? Got any useful tips to help me keep thoose archers in place?

To be honest, no. Commands for getting any troops to stay in certain formations seems to be unlikely.

I like to use a lot of missile troops too, especially when defending and you have a decent slope. On flat ground, watch out If the other side has some decent cover and/or decent valor cavalry, sometimes the archers spend more time running than shooting. I sometimes use bait myself to try and get the cav closer so that they can wreck havoc on the missile troops. I found sometimes I didn't want to use pavs and xbowmen with shields as they couldn't move quickly if necessary.

You can do

Yup, I know but the main prob is that they don´t stay in that formation always. I think you should be able to put units ina any kind if formation and when you hit "stay in formation" button they should stay in that formation.

Ex: defending a hilltop, surrounded on all sides I´d like to do this:
