Adding new factions

So, I really did look around before asking a question that has already been answered on the board, but...

I want to add a new faction that I can make up. I saw someone refer to a guide called adding new factions but I can't find it. Anyone got a link or any info on where to go for the very first steps of altering the game. There's a lot of stuff on the board, but it all seems to be a step further than the beginning. Thanks.

Thanks, that link was exactly what I needed. It is a lot harder than I imagined it would be, however. I guess it will give me something to do over the last few days of Spring Break. I'm sure I'll be back shortly looking for more answers as I go.

What type of editor do you use for BIF files?
When making an FN_MYFACTION_WIN file, can I just copy another and rename it?
