View Full Version : what's the quickest way to make money in a pinch?
right now i am playing as the Almohads and i have all of the lower part of the map - but not Egypt or beyond.
upwards i have Aragon and Navarre and everything with that area. right above me the French have a huge army in Aquitane and Toulaise.
i might possibly be able to defeat Egypt, but it'll be hard.
the problem is i didn't really set up any good income source for myself and now i have -Florins each turn. it appears like i don't have money to build anything at all. not even Alims will train for me at the moment. i've set my tax right to Very High for all my provinces, yet i am still stuck. i don't have a couple of shipyards but my Drows won't finish building so they aren't making me income either
what do i have to do exactly to start generating money in this situation? if there was a way to get my money back up without me having to attack right now, that would be ideal

I feel like a broken record, but the answer is the Table of Contents (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=3823) thread again. See the section on Trade & income. That oughta get you started. Navaros, you should bookmark this that topic. There is good stuff in there. In some of those topics, the CA devs actually provide some insight to the workings of the games.
For a more organized approach, check out froggy's A Beginners Guide to MTW (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=9190) - another thread worth bookmarking.

Disband a few of your armies. You'd be surprised how much they cost per turn.
Also, get rid of anything in your building queue that you do not want built.

Getting quick money is quite easy.....
How many different nations are you at war with ?
My suggestion would be to invade some of their land, capture it, destroy all buildings in that province (ie you get money back) and then retreat to allow the other faction to retake it. If they dont a rebel faction will take it creating a buffer zone between you and the enemy. It is also a good idea to increase the tax rate in the province this will cause it to rebel
If the enemy retake it it will be of little use to them as they will need to start again.

If you hold all of Spain you should be in good shape. Disbanding armies will free up some cash; cash can be used to build farm improvements-Castile, Leon, Valencia and Cordoba have very rich lands well worth building to max.
If you are at peace with everyone atm trade is an excellent choice. Money freed up by disbanding units or trashing structures can be devoted to building ports, trade buildings and ships. Mid-term you need this anyhow. A circle of ships around Spain keeps the French (or British) from landing anywhere they like and raping your provinces.
You could risk all Smite the heathen and march forth to glory and slaughter Expend your armies removing the blot that is Egypt. The idea here is to get something while reducing your payroll. Trouble is, who is Egypt allied with? how many crusades can you expect to be directed at you?
Btw, had the same problem in one game as the Almo's; good luck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif
Navaros, go on Egypt. Doesn't matter how hard it will be, your troops won't be eating your income anymore, and you'll get some prov and finish those dhows.
After that, you'll find solutions.
