Well, not a completely new type of game. But for people who are losing intrest in the same old conqueror the world game, how about somethin different?
Here people can give other people challenges, to get so far in such a time, for example...
Danes, Early - Control Denmark, Norway and Sweeden by 1100
an easy one, but then this can be extended to
Danes, Early - Control Denmark, Norway adn Sweeden by 1100, and Scotland, Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex and Wales by 1130
So they are like GA's but set by people and theres no reward. have a go

That isn't a bad idea HopelessCelt. Have you actually tried this or is it something you think would be a challenge? Just curious as I haven't played as the Danes. The nice thing about your particular challenge is that it is a fairly short challenge.
Now you get me thinking. Another similar type challenge would be to offer a game save from a campaign you played that has a very difficult situation to handle. For example, I wouldn't mind having the save from right after phyrrus's Venice disaster described here: Destroyer of Kings' Influences (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=16088). It sounds like a real challenge to deal with.

Ive done the first one, but the second i didnt by 15 years.
Good idea, we could also try that.
Get a situation which is winnable but not too easy, like have a Crusade halfway to its destination, but looking like losing, and the task is to save the crusade.
yep, salvaging campaigns sounds like a challenge all right.
I would also like to suggest challenges like the best start in terms of how fast you wipe out a powerful neighbor that could be your enemy, how much ransom money you can get for kings etc. to boost your economy up the most, etc.

I did the Dane Challenge tonight, the Welsh Castle fell in 1150. The Danish King did celebrate as the English King hide in Mainland Europe.
