I know there were a few posts on how to build up your general's command level but I can't find them. Can anyone advise me or point me in the right direction to the posts?

A few are very recent and should be on page 1 or 2 of this forum.

The obvious ways to increase the command stars is by winning battles and giving out titles that increase the command rating. The other way is to work on getting certain V&Vs that boost the command rating... Now you're going to ask which ones. I'll let the V&V experts handle that one.

Also, nurture your bloodline. The quality of your king seems to make a big difference in pumping out leaders on the regular troops. I recently was playing the Spanish and by keeping the high influence high command king i was having regularly 1-2-3 stars regular troops.

(Or could it be that this is dependent on faction?)

heavy cav will often have up to 3* outta the gates and heroes would have 4+.

otherwise, building up generals with battles is far too hard and thus I recommend trying to get good command heirs.

this you can get by having max influence kings who also have a high star rating, preferably 6* or 7* as higher command kings will have a wraparound effect and create 0* heirs.

the influence is the best indicator of quality of heirs and they are almost always +-2 from their father's command so 7* kings can produce those sought after 8* and 9* heirs.

In order to gain the skilled attacker and up, your army has to be smaller than the enemy. Losses allso has to be smaller than the enemy. Its very easy doing this as the Danes in early. Vikings are great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

yep, mercs can also help with this. It is a piece of cake to kill more and lose less if you have far superior troops.

it's funny to see my merc heavy inf and cav cut through peasant rabble http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif

a nice little merc force early in the game can be great for training up a general in addition to giving some land.
