Battle Tactics

Hellooooooo

I`m a newbie at this game, only had it 4 days, but it is brilliant.

I have worked my way through the tutorials and started an English Campaign (early). My main problem though is the use of battle tactics and troop deployment (I`m hopeless http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif ) - is there any sort of guide/information available as far as this is concerned.

It's good to see a another fellow warrior getting into my favorite pasttime. Take a look at the very first post at the top of the page. Froggy has made an excellent training manual that will have you conquering whole continents very soon. And when you get some experience marshalling your troops come join us in the multiplayer. It's a lot of fun too.

Froggie's guide (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=9203) is one of the best game guides I've seen for any computer game I've ever played. People pay money for guides that aren't nearly this good. I still refer to it. Also, check out his unit guide on the main forum.

I kept one rule of thumb while learning tactics: Make sure every unit in the battle is doing something. If it's not firing, attacking or marching, double-click on it and take a look around.

That's not a rule you'll follow once you learn what you're doing, but it helps a beginner.

Yes, the mp side of the game is even better. Get to meet ppl and learn from them.

OK - thanks for the advice. I have d/l and printed froggys guide, and it is very informative and helpful.
