Ive grow quite tired of the skillessness of this game, and as I don't play it to entertain some skilless monkey of a rusher who makes up for a lack of skill by bringing 16 melee units, I will hence make liberal use of the ban feature. This is not a debate post; this is informational....bring a rush army...game ends and I ban you. Rushers don't bother responding here, I don't care what you think, as long as you are not wasting my time you can rush whoever you want...but I'm not going to waste my time with you.
Trish Take note here
Well, trish doesn't seems to read this forum anyways :)

i have no problem with rushing as long, as it is strategic and not just throwing all your men on the enemy.
for a quicker player rushing can create a shock factor and chaos amongst the other players troops allowing you to pull off a really good flanking move.
i know alot of players that try to do one thing, force the other player into a missile duel where they can't possibly win, or try to slow the game down to a point where player speed is not important anymore and that strategy is the only deciding factor.
some rushers are noobs. others use a rush to give their speed the advantage, where they do not have the experienance to fight a slow battle.
thanks, dessa

well, lahll is of course entitled to his opinion, and I know what he means. Balanced armies are much more interesting to play with and agains.
But, ultimately, in my opinion "all if fair in love and war" and rushing isn't an exploit (like the swipe). You should be able to counter it if you know its coming.

I don’t think it’s countering the rush that’s the problem.
It’s “wasting time” with a person who has not taken the time to learn the game, and under stand the community they are playing in.
I agree
If you want to slam-dunk a mind-less victory, there are hundreds first person shooter games out there for the “testosteronely challenged”.
Just go do it there. Please
Edit: I am not talking about the calculated charge, but the mass through away of your troops because you don’t know how to use them.

Im not sure you really needed to post that your games are now off limits to newbs......
a full out rush can also be a strategy to help your allies.
if you break the flank of the enemy, they may panic and try to reinforce the flank, with troops from their own army, this will subsequently lessen the battle for your allies, remember it may go both ways, so be very careful if you try it.

Funny sometimes you go back and read your own posts and realize you missed the point. Your response may have been somehow relevant, but really you were out chasing your own demons?

Hey Lahll - you may be missing out on some great fun.
I had a game the other day with a great new guy - he took an all spear army and rushed. He wasnt upset, wasnt offended when I giggled in ally chat at set up (in fact, he giggled with me), took some of my (dubious) advice on army selection for his next game, and stayed to watch the game after his 60 second rout.
It was his 2nd game online, but his, and his allies, sense of humour made it a great fun game. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif
I think that if you want deadly serious action, who know whose games to join, or who to invite. But surely what makes us a special community is the encouragement that we give to such players and the laughs we all share. The only people I will ban are those who consistently quit games and/or are very abusive. Other than these, everyone deserves a second chance.
I wonder if these rushers would get a ban from your games if they were successful at taking an army off the field quickly. Are you saying that you have never seized the moment when your enemy has deployed at a 90 degree angle? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif

Rushers either win quickly or die horribly... Most of the time the latter. (especially in team games)
I have played very few games where a player decided to neglect all missile troops and focus on rushing, but there were a couple, and in both the rushers were given a right beating.
As someone has already said, its good to have a laugh in such situations
LOL a few days ago, some undercover wanted to play 1v1 with me but asked me not to get my cav Turk army http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I accepted because he was kind of like challenging me. As a reason for asking not to take my Turk army he said he prefers to play with balanced armies.
So I just chose same faction of his, and when the game started I LMAO The guy who had just said he wanted to played with balanced armies brought 16 combat units, no missiles http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
He lost though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I understand lahll's points and agree with him. However I don't ban those noobs, because beating their 16 combat units army with 12 or 13 is fun and it is like humiliating them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
1. we should respect one's opinion and decision. Lahll has his right to ban and we should respect his decision.. not ridiculing it.
2. not all rushers are newbies.
3. not all rushes are mind-less.
4. inexperience rush by newbie should be corrected, otherwise it may well be "wasting" time for the other player, since it takes no effort in dealing with it.
5. handling rush can be challenging and fun for some players.
Overall, have fun.. if the way battle is conducted doesnt appeal to you *arty, all spear, all peasant, lousy rush*, inform the other parties for their understanding.. the next one maybe an epic battle experience.

Also, if you remember, place a "No Rush Game" in the game title. This way everyone should know what they are getting into before entering the game. You may have to explain, what you consider "Rushing", because you can rush with any type of army. I have even rushed with an all missile army a time or two. :)
For example, I found once I called me game "Elmo's No Arty", the number of times people brought arty was few. Those few were then given one chance to play again. If they did it again, they were banned at that point.

For me I deal and dont deal with rushers. What I mean is, if the person is in a clan they are banned imediately after the match is finished but if you can tell they are new then I will help them depending on their attitude (Willing to listen, etc. etc. You guys know the type im talking) I just cant stand when someone in a clan takes a rush army though, it makes them and their clans look very badly.
Just for the record, I consider rush armies to consist of cav+missles only or 16 units of just cav or inf.
Edit: On the issue of banning if in clan, I mean even a remotely known small clan.
Aww, come on, ban whoever you want :)

Ok *goes off to ban Elmo and Ichi* http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
This whole complaining about rushing is exactly the same as the complaining about camping in Counter-Strike. It's choosing a tactic for the opponent rahter than adapting to different tactics. Proper use of archers can be devastating and can win the battle, but many seem to consider an archery duel before melee a sort of a ritual that has to be completed to lengthen the battle.
That being said, you all have the right to choose opponents who stick to your preferred tactics.
*also bans Elmo and ichi*

Quote[/b] ]Oi whats wrong with my good old 12 cav 4 missile "shoot and swipe" army
Actually nothing
Although I don't have any rules in my games I can understand people who are not enjoying to play against rush armies. I can even understand if they complain about this or ban the player.
But I can't understand people who complains about 3-4 missiles + therest cavs. That's simply army of choice without intending rushing.

Well you can ban me too then http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif I often take 3-4 missiles and the rest cav (along with a couple of horse archers). This is simply my choice of army sometimes. What is your limit then? 4 missiles 4 inf 8 cav? 4 missiles 3 inf 9 cav? 4 missiles 2 inf 10 cav? Is it OK if I get only 1 inf??? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Maybe I want to take missiles + a few spears + cav. Is it OK? If rush is not intended then this is simply up to choice of the user. After all taking too many spears against many cavs is its counter. Just like cav which should be infs' counter. This is all about RPS rule m8 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

You most understood me, I dont mind those armies, I mind those armies when they are just rush armies which is what they are for 90% of the time.
This is a silly post Lahll M8 I have to say, every game ends in some sort of rush at one point and lets face it defeating a newbie rush normally isnt very hard as a lot of the time they target a lot if not all of thier units on one of yours, why dont you just ban all newbies like certain players do with thier no newbs game names or veterans only (and we all wonder why we have only 250 online players).
I quite like it when people rush at least its a bit of variety and it doesnt happen too often, AMPs been doing it occasionally for ages anyone remember those all Monk armies coming your way, or all Yaris, its just an aspect of the game.
How would you class a player who takes 3 LBs and rushes you and just leaves the LBs behind his infantry centre killing your Gen or infantry? or how the turks can sometimes be used in similar ways?

I'll unfortunately have to agree with Spoon. There has always been the question of "balanced armies"... "balanced units"... etc..etc... this is fairly much an "unwritten rule" of the community.
However, a "rush" type army is a legitimate army and has been used by everyone not only in this game but through history. Ever hear of Blitzkrieg..? (spelling)
Because someone cant or wont defend against a "rush" army doesn't make the rusher "unfair"... it's up to everyone to compile an army to withstand "all" types of attacks. If one cant accept that then maybe it's time to rethink your army.?

I always tailored my army for getting rushed every time I played the RTKs. Elrich, Gawain, and the other RTKs were always double or triple/quadruple teaming me with horsies, swords and/or missile units. I found it quite "refreshing", especially when I brought my ElmoHead All Missile Army hehe
Well , the rushing problem is not really a rushing problem is the good old map problem, as its far too easy on flat and steppe maps ....
On another account the longbow armies are very lame , they are in the same category as the lancer armies of the old MTW , its mediocre ppl seeking a cheap advantage ...
But no I wouldnt ban anyone for stuff like that unless I specifically set certain rules for the game ...
If you dont want ppl to do certain things try to put it in the name of the game , or inform everyone as soon as the game fills up ....

why are the longbows considered cheap? is it cause of the ap melee? or that they kill cav too fast? would i be cheezy if i took instead of longbows, a unit of regular archers or two units of javelins and held them back and shot your general when he engaged in the melee?
InDaKnight
05-20-2004, 20:26
I can't believe anyone would compare lancers to longbows and say their both "lame." If you find yourself putting up rules that you say are fair, what will you say if I start putting up rules that I say are fair? Takes some of the fun out of the game doesn't it? The game to me is balanced, been that way since VI, to those people who want restrictions I say your not liking the game as much as you used to. Maybe you'll find another game to relax with.
Lbows are cheap becouse they got a longer range than everything else , so if ya got them ya dont need to skirmish , and still can keep skirmishers away ....
I usually host and always attack ...And game after game after game the defenders are picking english and it gets very very annoying to play against the same passive non moving longbow armies ....
Yesterday i had like 4 games in a row ( 2 vs 2 3 vs 3 and 4 vs 4 ) and maybe had a total of 2 opponents without longbows .. so yepp getting sick and tired of the longbow people ...( no this is not a topic on how to beat them I dont need advice on that)
TGI http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif
PS: Ok Inda lancers in MTW were even lamer than lbows in VI http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif ....

However,
There is a difference between rushers and chargers.
Chargers know what they're doing most of the time...
rushers....just rush.
