Anyway... I've been following the tactics related threads both here and at the COM and studying froggy's guide (insert some praise here). The Spanish infidels invaded my hard earned Egypt with a 200 men of diference on their favour and an overall better quality with better armouring etc. Autoresolve lost, I had to fight.

I got a similar story. Playing Turks on expert, I invaded COnstantinople, Byzantines withdrew then came back the year later. The battle was like 4 star kıytırık boybeyi men as my general with 1800 men and 9 star Byzantine emperor with 2200. No need to say, the battle was really difficult and long, but finally I made it and routed them. Went to kitchen for water, and when I return..... I found my friend playing MAFIA. He didnt save the game or replay. His salted skin hangs in my bedroom.

yep, don't despair about the lost replay. they should really bake so just play it again and you might get better kill ratios, even.

I had glorious victories against the horde in which I had a CTD before saving but I played it again and got better results.

I don´t know if your prob is similar to mine but it shure sounds like it. I experienced a lot of CtD´s before when I used to save a lot. Nowdays I only save directly after it says "saving progress" every, what?, 4 years and have no probs with CtD´s anymore when I play a loaded save-file. Since I RP my fac and only play GA-games I accept the turnouts of the games events and haven´t got the need for saving and going back to correct battles and moves.

Maybee the "auto-save" function in MTW have a similar prob that EUII had since that game was hopeless when playing with auto-save on so I just turned it off and manually saved when ever I felt like it. Never had a prob after that.

Thanks Autosave might be autodestruct. We're used to that idiom from Sea Dogs actually.

Another possibility is that NTFS compression causes troubles with the savefiles. I'll decompress the saves folder to check it.

One more sad story. I was playing as the french, and of course everyone hated me. I was at war with both the spanish and the hungarians, and the bastards were allied. Any francophile will know that toulousse is a great breedingground for uberknights. I was just pumping them out when they hit me. TONS of Spanish with those cursed jinettes and TONS of hungarian with armoured spearmen. I was badly outnumbered, I didn't even have a full stack. However, I managed to kill BOTH kings in the first 5 minutes, but there just were so MANY of them. Well in the end I won, my homegrown knights were about to fall asleep, when the enemy finally retreated after one of the most tense battles I have ever played. Victory was sweet, but when I tried to save my game I found myselfe hugging my desktop. As you can imagine I was no happy panda.

Incredibly stupid question: How do I turn autosave off? Looked around the menus everywhere but couldn't find it...now thinking...is it at the strategical map (minimap menu)?

You know what I hate? Tired units. Once I fought off a huge army of Egyptians with my Byzantines, and I gave chase to the fleeing cowards. Then, when my troops are all tired and spent, and I'm thinking I've just won myself a hard-earned victory, they come in with fresh crap and my army flees. Well, here's what I've done:

Turned off autosave;
Turned off NTFS compression for the savegames folder but not for the replay subfolders;
Defraged the partition.

Many battles and no crashes there yet, but when I decided to gave a break and quit, it couldn't make it to the main menu. Esc and down to desktop. Thankfully I had quicksaved.

I hope it works such partially than never.
