View Full Version : Question about Stacks & Huge Unit Size
I am considering moving up to huge unit size (from large) but I want to know something first. Does the 1000 man (or 960 or whatever the number is) limit on men in a stack still apply? I've gotten used to forming basic army building blocks that fit into a single stack. Most of these are sufficient for attack and defense all by themselves. If I need more power, I simply combine blocks until I have enough. This allows me to more easily manage my offense and defense armies and I have become heavily dependant upon this method.
I'm guessing if I move up to huge unit size I will have to completely redo my building block stacks. Am I right?

The 960-man limit does not, repeat, not apply. The limit doubles to 1,920 men.
If I understand the rest of your question, your blocks will be exactly the same, except they will have twice as many men in them.
Excellent Thanks for the quick response.

It's very cool to play with huge unit size, much more realistic.

Yeah the number of enemy deaths now seemed more accurate . it's funny when i play with small unit size in the viking campaign, my 90 men army was wrecking havoc around England with a combine army of 5,000 soldiers. Small unit sizes work in the 9th and 10th armies. The fates of nations could be decided by a few hundred men.
Armies just didn't have that kind of size. Except in China and India. They new the meaning of epic.

yes i have read somewhere, that a battle between 2 Armies would often result in hundreds of thousands of deaths. and sometimes to a million http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif , although that will be a bit of exaggerating. just imagine a 100,000 Chinese army go through Dark Age Europe fill with 1-2,000 soldier armies. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
But interestingly, although this limit applies to a single stack, the pracitcal limit in battles is 16 units, even if all of them are 200-men units, giving a total battle force of 3200.
How do I make my unit size huge? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
Been away from MTW for awhile, and this sounds like a must have. Thanks.

Main menu, options, game IIRC. Wander among the option menus.
