All,

I have a question. I am messing around with the startpos files on some mods. Just tweaking amd making things harder on myslef. About half the time I get the edit right and MTW will load up the changed file. Sometimes though, I don't get it right and MTW will either not load, or not display the campaign I tweaked. When this happens, I either have to delete the file and make a new one and redo my changes or try to hunt through the entire file and find the problem. Talk about annoying. Most of the time I end up just redoing it. Is the any log file that has an error message where MTW puked on the startpos error, like give a line number or show the line in question?

Not that I know of.

The key is to never make many changes at one time, although it is very tempting. If you only make a few between each test, you will know in what part of the file you have messed up. May save you a lot of trouble and time in the long run.

welcome NORSEMAN...
just backup files, double and triple check text modifications...and keep fingers crossed, when text errors are eliminated, then the other problems can be tackled effeciently, trust me, i've made plenty of the text errors in modding...
good luck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

Hm yes make small changes and check if they work and slowly move towards your goal. Thats my advice.

I have the same advice as the others, make only a few changes then check to be sure all works well, then continue.
Tedious but better then trying to backtrack or start over.
MTW does have an error log but it does not point out Mod file errors. it is in the directory as a txt file named error.LOS

Ok, thanks all. I figured as much, but was hoping for something different. Just have to be more methodical.
