In the LiHorse action page there is 2 fight coordinates:
fight
fight2
They share the same values.
My question:
Is it possible to give 2 instances commands for soldiers in order to use different frames in a bif?
I have 2 animations for fight. Spear, sword.
Does MTW allows to split the fight command in 2 actions like the horse example?

All units share the action command FIGHT for sword and spear. Can I create fight 1 and fight 2 in the txt Action Page file? I whant diferent animations for those weapons.
All units in MTW just have one FIGHT command.
Why horses have fight2 command?

Have you tried to talk to Duke John? If anyone knows, he'll know best of all. Other than that, you can try to Contact Lord Krazy, maker of the NTW units, all though I havent seen him in a long time, before I registered in fact.

I never tried it. I do know that the STW units had 2 different fight actions, so I guess it's another leftover from STW. But since it's used it is still being recognized by MTW. Did you try it out for infantry?

Anyway, if you want to use this to have cavalry charge with spears and fight with swords, I don't think you should continue hoping. I believe that STW used the 2 actions to have more variety in battles but that is all.

Do you want a single unit to use 2 different weapons, or do you want a single BIF to be used by 2 different units using different weapons?

....or one unit with two styles (types) of fighting. EX: a cavalry unit to first charge with a spear to fight the enemy unit then pull out a sword or bow (not the best example lol http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif )

Its the first option. There are no fight2 action in foot units.
Why are they in the horses. Is because of the STW thing?
My idea is to switch animations, with fight command, between sword and spear. Any clues? Programmers... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

So you want a single unit to fight with spears one moment and another moment with swords? That would be silly IMO.

Or do you want a unit to charge with spears everytime and then fight with swords? This is possible by including fighting coordinates for the sword but excluding them for the spear.

Or do you want an unit to charge one time with spears and from then on switch over to swords? This is not possible.

Got your point DJ. I was thinking in hoplitic combat. The spear was, indeed, the first weapon. But they used also the sword in a later phase of the battle. Disruption of phalanx, persecution. What you'll do in the Triari combat, on a roman mod?.

I think in HTW hoplites d'ont use sword. So the limitation point, maybe. Komninos, can you give your ideas in this subject?

This problem appeared to me when I build the Sarissa units.
We have now a multi functional bif both for Late hoplite/Iphicratian. They use spear in different ways.Pike/spear. So, the bif as 2 diferent fight animations. Normally we switch sword for spear with same animation,but for sarissas its odd to give them the pike movements for sword.Now I see that it is not possible.
When we assign two weapons for a unit ex: 6,1
6 is for all actions, 1 is for fight. Am I right?

Hi,

Well the way MTW uses weapons is by combining the weapon image and the files in the coordinates. So if you have a file the weapon appears if not then you will not see it.

I can make a unit use to swords by this technique.
Step 1. Put the coordinates of the sword in the weapons file in position 1 and 2
Step 2. Make the coordinates for the first sword and put them in weapons1 directory
Step 3. Make the coordinates for the second sword and put them in weapons2 directory

That’s it. The unit now will appear to have two swords.
This is the way I build my war-band units. These use a small spear when they stand, walk, run and charge and a sword while they fight or die.
Weapon1 has the files for the spear and Weapon2 the files for the sword.

Horses on the other hand have to appear no matter what the unit uses.

On the other hand CA has left a great amount of data n the files that are simply not used

Now for the Ificratian/late hoplites I think we have to make two fight & charge moves one of spear/sword (high grip) and one for pike (low grip). Though the sword will not be used ... I might also use this bif for the Thorakites that will use sword to seperate them from the Roman units.
