So I just tried this on a campaign and it was....difficult to say the least...but pretty fun.

I role played ONE general (naturally the best) through the whole game. I didn't fight any battles he wasn't in, (LOTS of auto calc which kinda sucked)set taxes etc on auto determin did as little ruling as I could and when I DID fight his battles I tried to fight them from his unit's POV (low and over his unit) only zooming out to direct units to terrain areas I could SEE but not click on.

Needless to say it didn't last long, the french and spaniards made short work of my continental holdings and took the isles in a few short years but it was kind of fun.

I've also played as a chronicler. Playing the game but also documenting family trees and all major events each year in an accounting notebook and later going back and naming wars, and other historical events. I've brought this up in other posts and havn't generated any discussion on it so I was wondering if anyone else does this or if I'm just nuts....

Anyone else try to play different ways besides MOD?

Here´s another nut-head who does a lot of strange things when playing like:

1. I always play GA-style.
2. RP my entire faction after its real history.
3. RP all units after V&V so that a "brave without belief" general will do unbelivable brave things on the battlefield etc.
4. Yes, I do write chronicles and also gives my kings nicks after they die. Ex: The spanish starting king is Alfonso VI (or VII), right? If he takes Valentia, navarre and Portugal I´d name him "Alfonso the Unifier" and if he takes Cordoba and Granada i´d call him "Alfonso the Liberator A campaign by ex. El Cid to mop up the Almo´s remaining african holdings could be called "El Cid´s African Quest/ -crusade" etc.

So now you have a discussion on this topic... finally ;)

I also love to roleplay the kings etc. and name them.

However, my starting kings invariably get "The Conqueror" title due to my aggressive early rush strategy with almost every faction I play.

It's interesting to have a really good king build up an empire and then have his good for nothing heirs run it into the ground.

However, if my king has killer instinct, I have an excuse for eliminating pathetic heirs. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Funny ways of playing, if I most say. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I allso have a favorit general that use a lot, but don't role play. The only rule I have is that governors have to be Royal Knights, but I will proberly get more idears later. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

hmmmm....

to keep it interesting I suggest using only woodsmen, peasents, or urban militia.

I rp to a certain point. Also, I get 1 uber general and send the rest to their deaths (in Flanders, let the Dutch take care of those damn Welshmen heirs to the English Throne DIE) -Caporegime

I'm writing an Italian faction story from one of my RP games. Starts out slow, but the family really goes down hill from there (it is about royalty of course).

I have a tendency to name my king and some of my generals as well. Titles I often use:
-Conqueror
-Great (either ran a highly prosperous peaceful age, or crushed all who stood in their way)
-Wise (usually micromanagers who restructure the economies)
-The Dark Lord (high dread, mass killings, iron heel to the max, uses orc 'swarm' tactics in battles)

Common agents/generals:
-Da Ripper (assassin that specializes in killing princesses...)
-Fist of God (high piety, high tech general, uses power units and gets high kill/death ratios)
-the Bloody (kills everything)
-Saint (a bishop/cardinal that manages to convince some of my more ruthless kings to some act of mercy)

RP-ing is fun, MTW is a great game for that. Sometimes the AI won't leave you alone enough to play that way, but the potential for imagination is great.

Woodsmen, peasents, or urban militia http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Now that is a challenge.
