I m kind of role playing HRE and got removed from the popes christmas list after claiming my territory in Italy - as a devout catholic I refuse to attack or assasinate him and get the bann spoken calling for crusades against me - fine. All former allies (England, France - and yes England survived the french onslaught for a change) and the neutral spanish complied and crusaded against me.
The spanish crusade made it first and got his a$$ handed in Provence http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif - the french one went to flanders too meet the english one there http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-gossip.gif - now I have 3 crusades dwindeling away on my borders for a decade and they dont move although they outnumber troops in my territory.

I m wondering if the AI saw that the crusades are up against swiss halbs supported by arbs and chickened out although outnumbering, because the Hungarians attacked elsewhere with fewer numbers but outdated troops were guarding the province.

BTW - I kept the peace until 1159 - is that a new record ? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Hehe.. if you got heirs, get your king killed in a battle, that way those crusades will disperse.

lol cebei - I m not worried about them just wondering why they refuse to give my troops some practise - all 3 are in provinces bordering me but they don t move in
Getting my king killed would get rid of excomm but it has no effect on crusades - only three ways to kill crusades:
1) - destroy chapterhouse where it originated from
2) - if catholic - capture targeted province first
3) - destroy crusade
- The french build a second marker so they will crusade me again next turn (I know - only one crusade at a time but that isn t true for the french for some reason - would be the 3rd time seeing it for me) at least the Hungarians are not scared from attacking me and getting the valor of my swiss halberts up http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

The AI does send multiple crusades. I'm watching twin Spanish ones sitting in Cyrenecia and pounding pathfinder don armies off of Egypt in my recent game.

Are you using some type of mod? How did you get Swiss Halbs and arbs (both high/late units) in 1159? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

lol reminds me of the the three time traveling arq revolt I got in 1105 when playing medmod.

yeah, how did ya get swiss halbs and arbs? they are high though. did you get SAPs too? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

in early, they would definitely be scared off by that kinda army.

I'm not sure a human player would win against that.

fanatics vs. swiss halbs just don't work out never mind all the losses from long ranged arb volleys.

Crusades generally will not attack unless they think they have a chance to win. If they are outnumbered, they will just sit there. The problem is, crusades are only considered individually, so if the three of them combined would outnumber you, it doesn't matter.

I had a similar situation playing as the Byzantines, they would send lots of crusades at Constantinople, but because I had such larger armies on my borders, the crusades would show up, look around, and stop. :) Of course, I couldn't move out my armies until they dwindled away, which was a bit annoying, but at least I didn't have to waste time fighting them.

Don't see any mention of Swiss halbs being around at that time, just that that's when the fun began. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I hate when large crusades just sit at my doorstep being a bunch of pansies, when I'm spoiling for a good fight. It hasn't happened to me in a long while though, since my last two campaigns were as the English (nobody crusading that way) and the Hungarians (had a couple of them passing through before western Europe fell prey to endless war, bloodshed and destruction - might have had a little hand in bringing that about myself, too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif ).
Maybe in my new Almohad campaign I'll get my share of the fun - though nobody's responded to the Pope's crusade requests against me yet. Guess I'll just have to attack some more catholics then...

no - i didn t have them then - that was just a different point that never happened to me before as the HRE - I usually get attacked much earlier. Then game time with the crusades was around 1280 I think so I had enough time to buils quite a few. And its unmodded 1.1.
