I used to play a LOT.. but then came the ph.d and then post doc.. I almost forgot which one was the bishop http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I used to play the easy mate, check in like 5 turns. It was impressive when I was beating everybody when I was 15, but as I grow up people started to get smarter and I never bothered to devise another easy mate system. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif

Played as a kid and have picked it up again to encourage my son. He is 8 and in a chess club at school, I have to pay attention to what I am doing or he is going to beat me one of these days.

Gameknot (http://gameknot.com/)

Yes, I play chess, but I suck big time compared to what I was doing to people when I was some twelve; not a dry eye that comes to play against me, I'd wipe the floor with some serious experts and they would just sit and stare, their jaws hanging like if they are going to fall off. Now, I'm just slightly above average player that actually plays regularly, I play some 15-20 games all the time, 3 days limit per move for a game.

I like to play on Yahoo every now and then, but lately, it seems that there's a crowd of ignoramuses clogging up the intermediate rooms. You know the type Oops, I didn't mean to do that, can I take my move back? When the obvious answer of 'no' reaches them them they either a) start insulting me and calling me every name in the book or b) quit the game, ruining the experience, sometimes both. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-speechless.gif

Anyone know of a place for online chess with a better clientele?

I quit playing chess because I couldn't stack them to attack the king http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

BTW, JIMMY, that was pretty bad.

Yahoo is too abusive nowadays, ppl gang up on you when you get a modearately high rating and complain big time when you beat them. I always play with the English opening which confuses many ppl.

Have Loved too check since I was six.. After two weeks daddy was no more match for me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have play rather regulary until all of the chessplayers in the village were rather frustrated, because they didn't like to loose against a small child not even ten years old http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Some chess club members came once to give us some lesson and ask me to join them after I won against them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif

But it was too distant and I slowly stopped to play as a result of competitors~:( .

But when I played after a long time again for fun against my teacher one of the best players of the region I was able to get a nice draw.

Some weeks ago a cousin of mine got struck in a online game, and there again the old passion came to life http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I loved to improvise and to invente some new openings, and so I do also in MTW; It is always nice to work out new tactics and strategys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

I used to love playing chess In fact, I probably still do, but I haven't played in ages. I used to play against my brother, but he gets really annoyed when he loses and so I kind of lost my appitite for the game.

I should dig out my chess set again some time and see if I can play a game with someone

*ponders* You know, I think my favourite game of chess I have played was when I promoted four pawns to queens. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif It was a complete wipeout after that

Like many people here, I went through a relatively short period of time during which I played chess a lot, followed by a long period when I played little. Now I have the beginnings of a rivalry with a friend of mine; I've won two very close games and he has trounced me once. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-toff.gif

Yesterday I became a member at GameKnot (http://gameknot.com). You can find me there under the member name blunderqueenagain. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif I picked that name because, well, I'm sure you understand why... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-oops.gif

Although, I seem to remember chess being the most fun when my brothers and I were just learning, and none of us really knew how to play. Back then, we could wreak havoc with our knights; they'd just go romping through enemy lines until they were captured. Then I took on a good player and was checkmated in four moves. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-speechless.gif Everything changed that day.
